Hi all,

i have been spinning for about a week. After my first hour of going almost nowhere while all others around me were improving i was beginning to feel that poi might be one of those things that i just can't do. A few days later i had another bash at it and as if from nowhere i suddenly started picking up skills! 45 mins later i was teaching random passers by who had stopped to watch all us poiers (on York uni campus). Then there was the fire poi... it went well for a first go with fire poi.

counting me, 3 of the 4 people on my corridor spin poi and we have 1 spinner in the block to the left and 1 in the block to the right, so no shortage of people to go out and practice with. I had seen hyperlights vid already (i'm a friend of a co-worker of hyperlight's) and figured LED poi were the way to go, i went into our local shop to get some but they were sold out so i got some cobra instead (the finger loops are falling apart already, but that is a winge for another thread). None of the spinners i know are particualrly uber skilled, so i leveled out quite quickly till i found your free lessons bit, cheers biggrin

I can do a 3beat weave weavesmiley and have stared at the 5 beat lesson for about 45 mins and think i understand but have yet to give it a propper try, hopefully soon.

Having already been let down by poor quality big name poi "poi poi" and heard bad things about globalz i decided i might as well jump in at hte deep end and start building my own LED poi. I have a electronics post doc to help me out with that side of it if i get stuck... almost certain he will be called in, as i explained about alternator poi and he just told me how to build them right then and there (as far as the electronics go anyway).

The main reason i joined the forum is to pick some brains about building LED poi. Clearly a fair few of you are good at building them. I have been reading various parts of the boards over the last few days.

Thats plenty intro enough for now, i'm off to the techies section to have my "design" shot down, as soon as i have finished my design to start with that is wink
No doubt i will be posting on the technical moves boards as well, as soon as hit myself one too many times.

Oh yeah, i'm a student... male... er, that about covers it

My state of mind is not yours to define!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Welcome to HoP and good luck with the LED poi.
