Hey all! Just registered a couple of days ago - I've been reading a bunch of posts, and you guys all seem pretty cool. Figured there'd be a lot more Canadians on here from the number of poi people I see when I go out, but either they're all silent, or this place really is all run by Brits and Germans .

Anyways, I'm from Calgary, Alberta. Been into the rave scene for years, but only decided to pick up poi and flags a month ago, and now I'm a total addict. Right now, I'm mostly just smacking myself a lot, but I love it.

Deets:

Age - 24

Things I like - Trance, hard house, travel, and economics (yes, i totally did just say that)

What I do - marketing

Since this is my first post, ask me anything else you want...

Mand and I will be up in Calgary some time relatively soon. smile

I've been spinning for a while now, nearly four years, and Mand's been spinning for nearly a couple of years.

Anyway, we'll let folks know once we are up there. We'll need to look for a cool place to spin, and ultimately, a cool place to live.

Patrick - thanks!

SpitFire - keep me posted. What's in Calgary for you? Seems like a bit of a jaunt from Houston. I'm gonna guess you work in energy, cuz that's the only reason I can see anyone from a nice warm place like TX coming up here...

Yex - Heya yourself. Going to Shambhala this year?

I do work in energy, but that's really secondary to why we're moving. Calgary has Mountains, Houston does not.

I miss mountains....I reallllly miss mountains. biggrin

Will definitely keep you posted! By the by...welcome to HoP!

Mountains rule - do you ride (mtn bike)?

Last year was my first Shambhala, too - I am soooo psyched for this year.

Bird - thanks!

Pink - As long as it's not on me or owned by me, I'm all for it. It's an awesome colour!

Nantheos - Good call. Haven't been a user that long - been prowling around for a few months, but I didn't really see a point in registering till I had my own flags and practice poi...

Mand - It'll be sweet to have you guys in Calgary. Let me know when you're here, and we'll hook up.

Sparkey - Hmm. I suppose that's a good thing, so thanks!

redface I've never been mountain biking...but I imagine that will change in a few months.

We are both hoping the ski lifts will remain open long enough for us to get some snowboarding in...not that I'm great at it, but I have fun.

biggrin

welcome Blue48

It seems like everybody is in Calgary. I actually used to live there, but thats the way it goes frown
Do you make it to any of the Edmonton raves? (of course theres not many...)
I'm looking forward to Shambhala - last one was amazing.

hug welcome

Mand - that's a lot of stuff, but totally worth it. Riding, raving, kayaking, snowboarding - I'm surprised you survived at all south of the 49th. I've actually never been kayaking - took lessons, but in an odd twist of fate, my instructor actually died on the Mistaya (got trapped under rocks for 20 min) right after I finished my course, so I've never really gotten around to it... frown
Someday, though!

Chase - I went to uni up in etown, so I'm actually there a fair bit. Viva Las Vegas in 2000 (I think) at the Sportex was my first rave ever. Sadly, you're right about there not being many raves in etown anymore (stupid city bylaws). I generally like Edmonton a lot better than Calgary, but I'm slowly learning to like living here. Let me know if there's anything good going on, and I'll try to make it up!

Hey Blue48

I have an invite for you beerchug juggle - on april 23 there is a party at the Polish Hall called Four-Twenty. I'll be spinning poi all night along with as many friends as I can get out. Kenny Ken, MC Fearless and Ferry Corsten are among those playing.

Also, you wouldn't happen to know who's selling tix in Calgary for 4:20, wouldja? (I'm gonna guess the usual suspects in Kensington and on 17th, but I hate wandering around to 6 shops to find out...)

Nice - I'm still trying to get the forward weave down. Can't wait till next month, when I'll have a house with real practice space to live in!

Hey Ry - nice to meet you as well. I guess the thing I love most about it is that it explains why people make decisions in such a succinct fashion. Every other branch of the social sciences tries to append morality or idealism to reality, but economics just tries to develop models that tell it like it is. I just finished "The Elusive Quest for Growth (https://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/0262550423/qid=1112055755/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/702-0436181-6378418) , which is a wicked examination of why foreign aid policies have failed miserably for the last 50 years. If you're a fan of the subject, I'd highly recommend it!

How's Brisbane treating you? My sister's there right now - I'm soooo jealous.

Give the "Meet Others" section a look. I am sure I saw something about Calgary there. It may have been a fairly recent intro thread as well though....

"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here."
