Hullo. This is kinda odd, last forum I joined I knew most of the people on it, here I don't know anyone. Hopefully that won't last though! Anyway, here's me (sort of).

Age:27, so theoretically old enough to know better, but it doesn't seem to be working!

Hobbies: costuming, tapestry, sword fighting, lots of other stuff, and now staff spinning too!
First time spinning: Firestaff at about 3am in a field at the re-enactmant of the Battle of Bannockburn last September. Been hooked ever since, and my lovely fiance bought me a firestaff (and a balloon animal blowing kit!) for Christmas, isn't he nice?! Haven't lit it yet though, thought it might be good to stop hitting myself with it first.
Can't think of anything else right now, it's Monday morning and my brain has melted. Need more sleep.

Must be less slack and stop hiding. Too many things to do though.
Have new job, starting January. Will be living with inlaws. Must find house. Have tried to buy 3, but they didn't work. Various reasons, none our fault. 4th time lucky?

Yeah, it's just annoying and scarily expensive (£1000 pm repayments

I'm fine, thanks, just spending a month in Bedford at Unilever playing with rat genes. But I've been playing with jugglers in Cambridge, will meet the Bedford lot tonight and then the Birmingham folks on the weekend, so I'm kept busy. Got my guitar, too

My colleague's just talked me into considering buying a flat. Of course it all depends on whether I stay in Edinburgh, or consider going to Oz for the next job, or somewhere completely different instead... oh my poor little head!!!
Sometimes I wish I had something or someone in Edinburgh that would really make me want to stay, or that I'd find it difficult to make friends in new places, or that I wouldn't get bored of things and places so easily, so I wouldn't be tempted to move on all the time

Moving the hive from parents this weekend. They will love the field next door 50 acres of oilseed rape!
Raspberries will be grown. Planning to turn the small field (about 1.5 acres) into orchard (with bees!), soft fruit, veg plot, mediaeval style herb garden (complete with weird mediaeval herb varieties when I manage to source seeds) and a flower garden.
This will take some time!
Then we'll start on the stabling and duck pond methinks.
Soon though.... KITTENS!! (Probably summer holidays and may be cats will investigate cat protection place and rehoming type things)
First though: the building of the compost heap!

for weird seed varieties go and pay a visit to Culross Palace at the end of the summer and wander round their garden (pocketing a seed head or two as you go)
it's worth a visit for inspiration anyway

Yay, a messcage! And from a Molly.
Never been to Culross palace, always meant to. Pity we didn't get the house near there but it was too falling down. Must go next time visit parents. Seed acquiring is good plan. Shades of my gran (who went round Falkland Palace gardens once when visiting my parents taking cuttings and collecting bees in plastic bags for a survey. Her handbag was a bit buzzy by the time she left.)
Pitmedden gardens near here is fabulous too. Lots of espaliered apple trees round walls. Nothing unusual though. Is very good place in Black Isle that sells all sorts of weird things. Even got Spikenard - the proper sort.
Most things won't be happy until we have grown wind breaks unfortunately. Everything tends to get wind burnt leaves at the moment. Bees seem to be happy.
Might be getting 2 horses to holiday sit for 2 weeks in July. Kittens soon too, got all the cat keeping stuff for my birthday.
Need more visitors though. Hint Hint.

We have 2 kitties and they have both just had cat flu They are doing ok now though, so all is good.
Grow willow... it grows fast, you can cut it for making things and it makes a good wind break.

Have book on Chelsea Physic garden. Must investgate further once field ploughed and terraced. Will be most helpful for the mediaeval herb garden plan.
Jerusalem artichokes will be in veg plot somewhere probably.
Willow going to be in the boggy bit at the bottom of the front field, probably going to stick some along the eastern side along with poplar as main windbreak. Is more than 300m from house (I think, better check!) so root system shouldn't be a problem.
Poor kitties Cat flu nasty, glad they are okay.
Nope on play this year. Too skint and new kittens. Rayburn and kitchen getting done in July/August along with solar panel for additional hot water. Is all a bit scarily expensive. Summer will be working on tiling and plumbing in the utility room so can get chest freezer sorted, and fencing and terracing small field so we can get the orchard sorted in October and get veg beds done in time for next year. Want to sort out temporary chicken housing too. May even get around to doing something with the inside of the house at some point! Anyone who's bored and fancies some work over the next 6 weeks would be welcome to come and help!
And then October is tree planting. Maybe we should set up a scheme for people to offset carbon emissions by planting a tree on our land.
Hopefully make PLAY next year, but travel going to be limited from now on due to various livestock. No re-enactments this year either which is a bit weird. Not even Tewksbury.

Hmm, so many plans, so little done.
Field not ploughed - couldn't move cows due to F & M restrictions. Hopefully get done before winter now ban is lifted.
Rayburn installation started late, finally in working order last Thurs of hols. Adjustment required in cooking methods now! Loads of hot water, but not got hang of banking yet. Utility room not sorted and still full of workmens stuff cos solar panel still to be fitted. Kitchen now being installed end of month. Tiles bought, hopefully collect this weekend. Then let the tiling commence!
Chicken housing. Ummm. Yeah. Not done that yet either.
Got kittens though!!
Very cute. Will try to post pics. Sophie is ginger, and Cauchy (boy) is black and white. Both are mischievous little monsters, Sophie in particular is very good at getting into rooms, cupboards, wall voids etc that she shouldn't. Catflap installed, they managed to get out of it this morning, hopefully they've worked out how to get back in cos its raining. (If not, they're probably playing on the log piles in the barn!)
Must order trees and hedging. Who wants to help plant it all?!

Fencing materials are very expensive.
Roof blew off half the barn in January when it was very windy. Still trying to get 2 quotes for insurance purposes. Got one, man visited and measured for second but hasn't sent quote yet. This was in March. Very frustrating.
Must pot things on, plant things out and make lists of plants to sell.
And buy wood for chicken enclosure so the scruffbags can go in it (they are wandering around the byre and noising up the cats).
Knackered back / neck 3 weeks ago falling off horse practisin cross country jumps. Ooops. Am getting to ride lovely Welsh D horse belonging to friend. She's grumpy but ace although, can't really do competing though as she has probs with feet and hocks. Stood on stone yesterday and went lame though, poor beastie, so no riding today.

Knackered back / neck 3 weeks ago falling off horse practisin cross country jumps. Ooops. Am getting to ride lovely Welsh D horse belonging to friend. She's grumpy but ace although, can't really do competing though as she has probs with feet and hocks. Stood on stone yesterday and went lame though, poor beastie, so no riding today.
