I'm making a set of cables for my fireheads out of 1/16 aircraft cable, but I can't find thimbles for cable that small. I was just wondering how important people think they are...personally I'm a bit worried about the wear the cable will take. Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, in case anyone knows them by another name...thimbles are the open, tear-shaped pieces of metal that you wrap cable around to form a loop that holds it's shape and is protected from wear.

Cable thimbles that size do exist, and you can find them at a well-stocked hardware store.

I doubt that the thimbles really enhance the strength or durability of the overall package by much, although the thimbles do give a nice finished look. They make it surprisingly difficult to assemble the cables, though.

I've checked every hardware store within a halfhour drive and I can't find any. Arg. And if they're not going to make the cables last any longer, I don't think go any further than that.

Thanks once again for your help Adam! I really appreciate your sharing all of your technical knowledge.
