I count it when they're in the middle... (the farthest away from each other).

Is that one of the secret answers?

I tend to count at the bottom... It's where my "beats" are when I dance to music as well. I'm not so sure about split time though...

Well, shall we go?

Both. It depends which way the poi are going though, I count at the bottom one way, then if I switch, I count at the top

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

sorry rob but the way i was taught to count beats was @ the bottom too - but like i said, i can't count so i have no idea which is best or why.
any chance you count at the top cos you prefer spinning most stuff in reverse? it sort of makes sense...

as long as the people you are performing with count in the same place it seems to me it would make very little difference.
if the poi do circles, they go past the top as many times as they pass the bottom.
so there should be no difference, unless of course you are in a performance group with someone that uses the opposing method which would just be plain crazy...

waistwraps always confuse me the most with this.
counting the beats at the top gives you a different rhythm to your beats to if you count at the bottom.
eg. doing a top carry and counting at the top, you get a beat on the carry. counting at the bottom you get a beat just before the carry and a beat after

thats my argument... seems majority count at the top like me, it must be rob and the POO's cocking it all up and sabotarging my lifes work and learning to count to 10 backwards! *brainfuct*

count at the bottom.

if its a beat its down (ie who plays drums upside down? answer; noone because the natural way things fall is down).

Unless you are specifically trying moves that happen on the up beat (break beat?)

Also,

The bottom of the swing is where you put more of the force into swinging. So your muscles naturally work more at the bottom...

mv2/r + mg

rather than

mv2/r - mg

at the top if you must know.

Since your body is moving more to provide force for the spin it only makes sense to count at the bottom. That's when you flick your wrist or drop your arms.

I think Rob and the rest of the 'top counters' should be banned from all Poi gatherings. Let the commies find their own friends.

It's just not natural. I'm pretty sure it's against what the Bible says as well but I'll have to check that...

Well, shall we go?

just to clear up.

if any of you watched or latest shows closely(or at all) you will have noticed the big butterfly extravaganza at the end of the wing routine. and if you look even more closely you will spot the only one not counting at the bottomis....pk.

got proof too.
