A footbag — also known as a hacky sack — is a small, soft, weighted bag designed to be kept in the air using your feet, knees, and other body parts (no hands). The sport of footbag covers everything from casual circle play to competitive freestyle and footbag net.
What footbags does Home of Poi sell?
Crochet footbags — the classic hand-crocheted design, soft and grippy underfoot.
Sand-filled footbags — heavier and more controlled, great for stalls and freestyle tricks.
Leather hacky sacks — durable, traditional, ideal for outdoor play.
Beginner-friendly footbags for sale — softer fills and larger sizes for learning.
What's the difference between a footbag and a hacky sack?
They're the same thing. "Hacky Sack" was originally a trademarked brand name from the 1970s that became the everyday word for the toy. "Footbag" is the official sport name used by competitive players and the World Footbag Association. If you're learning casually, call it whatever you like — the bag doesn't care.
How do you play footbag?
The basic rule: keep the bag off the ground using anything except your hands and arms. Most people start with simple kicks — inside foot, outside foot, knee. From there, freestyle players build into stalls (balancing the bag on the foot), delays (catching and releasing the bag mid-air), and full combos with spins and crosses.
What is the best footbag for beginners?
Start with a softer, slightly larger crochet footbag. They land gently on the foot and are forgiving on mis-kicks. Sand-filled hacky sacks are great too — the consistent weight makes them easier to control once you've got the basic kicks down.
How do you make a footbag?
DIY footbags are a popular project — crochet a small pouch, fill it with plastic pellets, sand, or dried beans, and stitch it closed. The trade-off: home-made footbags lose their shape fast and the fill leaks. Purpose-built crochet footbags hold up to years of kicking and keep a consistent weight.
What are the rules of hacky sack?
Casual hacky sack has no real rules — keep it up, pass it around, have fun. Competitive footbag has formal events: Footbag Net (over a 5-foot net, like volleyball with feet), Footbag Freestyle (judged routines to music), and Consecutive (most kicks without dropping). The World Footbag Association sets the official rules for competition play.

10th April, 2022 Single Fire Footbag Very well made product "This footbag is very high quality if you don't mind the appearance which isn't the best, but it makes up for this in the strength of the material. This is for people who don't mind how this product looks, it can also hurt if you it wrong with your body, all in all it's a good product" Second, USA. [Verified Buyer] BRONZE Member since Mar 2022

29th March, 2022 Single Fire Footbag Meh... "The footbag is stiff and badly mis-shapen, it is impossible to kick in a controlled manner. Perhaps it will improve with time and use, but currently not safe to use as it is not round and cannot be controlled with the foot reliably. It also took about two months to ship..." Daniel, USA. Reply from Home of Poi: "Yes, you are correct, it will loosen up with use, especially once the fuel is added and set on fire. Be sure to read the fire and safety instructions.
Sorry about the delay in shipping. That was caused by factors out of our control. Hopefully later this year worldwide freight will become more reliable and cheaper."

7th November, 2018 Single Fire Footbag Strong "I am not new to fire dancing but new to purchasing here, however this item intrigued me. I carved in to my curiosity and spent the seven dollars that this item cost. When I got it in the mail I was horribly excited. it arrived very well packed, they made sure to place all of the items information as well as provide links to me in my digital order for things like tips, tricks, and other useful information. the only concern I have with the product was to the shape of it in the packaging, as I was worried that it could be injured, however as I inspected my purchase it was solid. It is a great item, a conversation to be had, and something a group can get involved in. however like all fire toys you should be careful in your use of this or may receive injuries." Threfeir, USA. 11th October, 2018 Single Hopper Footbag Alternate Juggling balls! "This was a fun little purchase. I use these as back up juggling balls that are cost effective and easy to store thanks to their squishy nature. They're a tad smaller than your average balls but I believe that has lead to more precision and care in building patterns." Psyfire, Australia. [Verified Buyer] GOLD Member since Nov 2014
