Posted: The 'pivot' is there to stop the chain from Twisting up as you spin.
I reckon it's put on the bottom near the head, because some moves require you to shorten the chain. the easiest way to shorten the chain is to wrap it around your hands.
If the pivot is at the top, and you wrap the chain around your hands, it kinda makes having it there a bit redundant, right? Then the chain will twist and kink and generally be crap whilst you're spinning.
