i know there have been posts already regarding uploading avatars. i want to know why i can't simply upload from my computer. i have been able to do it with myspace.com and deviantart.com and i don't want to register with a site just so i can use an avatar.
can anyone help me

How big is the image you want to upload?
There is a limit of 80 x 80 pix here.
You could try resizing the image.

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

resize it with photoshop or any other soft.. there is also free soft available as freeware (in case you have no PS)

i've only got paint.. i've minimalised it to 1.17kb.. it was 12.7kb and it still doesn't work.. could i send it to someone and check it's the right scale... if i had photoshop i would know what to do!

I just tried to change my avatar and it won't let me either and the one I want to change it for is less than 80x80 pix as it asks... infact it was a smalled file size than the old avatar... now it has left me with no avatar.
I tried direct up load and url linking...

Jon had to log in as me to fix it. It makes no sense because I tried linking it to a photobucket url and one Jon hosted and uploading it straight from my computer and none of that worked, but when Jon did it.... anyway. It's fixed.
