My first proper attempt at a tutorial video.
Not sure if anyone else has a name for them, but I've been calling them 1.5's smile

1.5's Tutorial

Note: The one-side variation, and some of the stuff in the "Play" section aren't 1.5's, but look nice when put with them biggrin

Enjoy (and crit please)

Nice stuff dude - same things you were playing with last time i saw you, and now they have a name! 1.5s is a bit gay tho wink

As for critique - well i think in your next video you should attempt to climb into that cup in the background - you look like you could almost fit wink

Keep inspiring man, although your chucking out these little clips remarkably quick - carefull you dont damage the toast reputation!! ubblol

Nah - it still doesn't work properly - it's meant to have a 5 second still intro at the beginning, but even using Xili it still lost it...

Any more feedback?
Is it worth my time to make some more tutes on anything? (Not sure what yet... re-do Polyrhythm in more depth at some stage...)

Nice to expand on.

I'm currently doing al lot of stuff with pendulums and stalls, so I liked it...

more feedback:

really nice tutorial, well made, and nice and easy to follow, at least I assume so as I learnt very quickly from watching it.

really nice move to, lotsa stuff to play with, lends it'self nicely to leading into anti-spin butterfly things.

I love the vid, and I love the style (although I'd prefer some sort of silly names like Weave-U-Lums or something wink)

It does give a clear demonstration on how the 'move' (god I hate that term) is put together.

Is it a fully fledged tutorial though?

I hope I'm not being to pedantic here, but personally, i like my tutorials to be voiced over, exploring the little niggles which may be encountered and suggestions on how to avoid them. Also, whilst I know that the space available is often a case of fortune and finance, I think a bigger sace allowing more of the subject (and less bed wink) to be seen is preferable. I had a bit of difficulty following the planes you were spinning in when demo'ing the weave variations.

Please please please don't think this is a damning of your contribution- I just always have this idea of a tutorial as being something more akin to the playpoi DVD (and yes I know that is professionally created/ financed but voice overs and multiangles aren't that difficult if one is really trying to make a comprehensive Tutorial).

See this a a wish list, expressed on a tangent to your request for feedback.

(I almost cracked weave 1.5s last night following watching and rewatching of your vid, so it obviously does what is wwas intended for.)

Looking forward to more.

1~ I don't like my voice on videos - and I waffle (unless I write out a script...maybee next time)
2 ~ It was going to be outside but was raining and I was inspired smile

So next one, might have a voice over, will be in more space and may even feature different camera angles to demonstrate the planes better.
The BTH variation is a b-astard I found smile

Nice, this is EXACTLY what Ive been somehow adding to my spinning style over the past few months.. Tho I didnt focus on a single poi doing a stall/beat but rather on both poi being paralell and then kinda "opening up" and the poi heads travelling next to each other.. Anyhow Ive got some consistence in thinking about this..

Looks great in middle of weave / mill combos.. And also has a nice effect with fire.. Youll see if I manage to edit a few vids.. : ))

Smile.. It confuses people..:)

if u move ur body through it and extend ur arms like on a flower u will find 4 point on extended up or one down or even one coming out between ur arms and body into inside infront of u feels like tai chi

will follow the way of 1,5 and try to find some inspiring keys for

sweet biggrin finally managed to download this. I'd just about got the basic ones sorted a week or two before I left for China, I was playing with these at Spitz with Bov and Linden, Bov suggested a BTB waistwrap version:

basically the pendulum goes round the back of your head, while the other poi does a BTB waistwrap and you lose the 1.5 for a beat, but when both your hands come back round the front your all set up for another 1.5

I have to say they remind me a lot of the diablo moves where you kind of move both your hands in a direction and together to shoot the diablo out (can you tell that I know f-all about diablo? ) rolleyes

also I was trying to work out whether you could have the pendulum going parallel with the lower rather than upper beat of the spinning poi, and what effect that would give..

More constructive criticism (I hope): the music is fun but too distractive. The 'space' has been mentioned but I like the subtitles, nice and simple. One has to learn by trying anyway.

Spinning videos have helped me heaps to learn new tricks as I'm out in the bush without a fire community to give me new input. It would be great to have an advanced poi spinning video including isolations, stalls, wraps, throws... Put it out there and you'll surely be rewarded.

How can you worry about waffling with a voiceover, it's a voice OVER you can re-record it to your hearts content without re-shooting the video smile
