So it seems there might be a few spinners heading to asia this winter with spinning on their minds. I just wanted to see who else is heading over, what their plans are while they're over there.

My tickets are booked! I'm arriving in bangkok 16th november, and returning to ireland 3rd February

I've heard from a lot of spinners of a park in bangkok where people meet up every day to play. Thanks to Banshee Cat for the following info:

 Written by:

It is the Pra Atit boat stop, and the park is called Pra Sumen. I would reccommend staying closish by at the guesthouses on Sri Ayyutaya rd-- Tavees Guesthouse, or Sri Ayyutaya's, or Shantis, all very close together down that road. Nice community... May Kai Dees is a great restaurant for veggie food along near that strip-two locations, one on samsen, and one off the end of Kho San rd and across the st.... Probably more specific address in the guide books...

Nick (poi celebrity number 1 wink) is planning on a poi camp in Pai, northern Thailand, where spinipulation enthusiasts can meet up and play, practice, etc (see his post below). I definately plan on spending some time up there with him during my adventure. Probably stop number one after bangkok... ubbrollsmile

I've been sending Yuta messages but he hasn't gotten back to me. The whole idea actually started with Yuta, when I was in Tokyo. We decided there to do Play Camp.

Yuta? Are you out there? Yoooo-hoooooo! Yuuuuuuutaaaaaaaa!

Hopefully he'll get in touch soon smile

I'm going to be in Pai (presumably with some brief field trips to other places as fun and visas require) from beginning of november until about aprilish. though as I have no return ticket, the april bit is quite flexible.

my set of goals is about the same as nick's.

looking forward to seeing you all there.

(all the above I's should have been We's. I'll be there with krista, my fiancee)

Make your way to the nearest boat terminal from Koh San road and the park is only a few minutes from there.
Actually the cheapest and bestest guest houses are around there also.
Have fun say hi from me when youre there

I'm currently at P.S. Riverside. You go down past Pai School, and just before the bridge there's a little street to the right. We're the last bungalow operation on the river. smile

i got my tickets through my cousin who's a travel agent, I ended up with €790 return from dublin,
but the best i found was with emirates (€650/£430 return to bangkok from london) but the credit card holder has to be on the flight so i couldn't book it with my mum's card.

Don't know what the story is with Josh, Andy and Mike.... but i think they should all jump on a plane too

While we are all there, how about gathering to do something productive- volunteer work!

Sezzie put up a good reminder in the Help thread, that there are still many homeless after the tsunami, living in godawful hot temporary shelters that were supposed to be just for a few months...

The people of Khao Lak and Ban Nam Chem still need lots of help. Not necessarily special skills; just willingness to work. I did everything from building houses, to teaching poi, to translation, data collecting... there are a full range of opportunities. The major coordinating organization in the region- the Tsunami Volunteer Center- will accept help for periods as short as a week, though obviously it is better if you can stay longer, so they dont have to spend so much time getting people settled into their work --just before they leave!

I am still in touch with many of the fabulous friends I made doing work there. It can be such an enriching enlightening thing. Fun too!It is one of the most beautiful areas of Thailand, white sand beach looking out towards the Andamans...

I will probably go for two weeks in January if anyone wants to go with me...

A great experience! Try it!

yes, yes, yes. Any results from the Xmas-discussions with mom and dad?
When exactly would you like to go? And where exactly? (first Bangkok, then further on?)

for me only Xmas is possible: we've got some kind of company holiday then, so I can't really work anhow. But I need to start working again rather soon after New Year's Eve. So for me, something like 20.12.-03.01. would be good - even though this is pretty much the most expensive period ... I know ...
