Quite a pleasant Sunday afternoon at home, so thought I'd bosh out a quick tutorial video (although maybe "example" would be better, as I don't actually explain anything...) with some examples of polyrhthym flowers, hybrid polyrhythm stuff and some very dodgy quarter time flowers.

Nothing special, but meh - someone might learn something...

Vaguely Techy, Vaguely Sloppy

Some (well, more than some) of the flowers are a bit sloppy, I'm not opening my body up on lots of them - no idea why, I'm trying to bend my arm into places it doesn't go if I don't - and for some of the beat counts - there's only a couple of reps which are actually tight.
But for anyone who doesn't know what Polyrhythm stuff is, er - watch this and then go read the polyrhythm thread smile

If I get some days to myself next week, I'll re-make this and put a couple more tutorial vids up of stuff, as there hasn't been much up in the way of poi tutorial videos recently (compared to Meg's staff lot that is biggrin )
Might actually do them properly with voice overs and everything.
Not that I'm bored you understand.

That's a nice video you've made there Durbs. My experiments with polyrhythm unfortunately ended in failure, but with a promise to revisit the topic "later"It's nice to have some visuals to go with the thread.

I did get something out of that 3:1 hybrid, switching hands section, I'd never thought of spinning a bf in that type of pattern ( spin AND antispin ) and if it ever stops raining, I'm going to go outside and give it a go.

IMO, the world needs more tutorials with voiceovers.

I agree with Chut. THe bf hybrid stuff is just awesome. It may be one of my new favorite moves. It just has such a great feel to it. Heck the whole video was sweet. I never even thought of doing polyrhythm flowers. I kept my polyrhtyms to reels, weaves, and butterflies. Thank you for making such an inspiring video! biggrin

lovely job smile

i count my flowers differently to you i think cos your 2:1 antispin/longarm one looks just like my 3:1 (trefoil+longarm circle) and your 3:1 looks like my 4:1 (quadrafoil+longarm circle).

flower counting is bitching, especially whaen you mix spin and antispin beats - watch nick's comments on scales of poi w.r.t. goofy flowers to see just how confusing they can be depending on how you count them...

the 4:3 basic side circles rocked my world ubblove

4:3 reels next please!

Loving the butterfly hybrids, they look awesome. Great work and keep the vids coming.

I'd love to see some workshops on this kind of stuff at some of next years meets.
