Pat, you'd have to see the chamois poi to really appreciate them. They were ever so much fun while they lasted!

I guess they were kind of strange though.
Kind of apt, if you knew me.

What the heck is going on here??? "Chamois Poi"?? Is that the NC version of the Irish ballad "Danny Boy"?? People passing out beer and peanut butter cookies??

I really don't know what to think about FS taking Brandi to chearleader practice?? I hope that the chearleaders are over 21. My oh my, such shameful behavior and I was left out of it because I was off trying to learn about spinning Poi and not spinning tales!!

I'll take a dozen peanut butter cookies CB and a pint of Guiness (as long as it is the real deal and not our "Americanized" version.. lolsign

Damn! Let's see if I can figure all of this out.

jt-I loooove "Danny Boy." I have the lyrics in my grimoire
along with the Norse funeral blessing.
- My 11 year old Daughter's name is Brandi...Emily Brandace to be exact.

-Other stuff-

I am sooo jealous of those of you who have been to or are in Scotland. I want to go but, I doubt I'll make it in this incarnation.

I'm of Scottish descent myself and one of my ancestors led a raid on Dunbarton Castle in 1538 that is considered to be among the most daring in history. I've been trying to learn a bit of Gaelic so that I can read my Celtic books, of which I have quite a few.

I also am quite interested in the Norse pantheon and am just starting to study the Asatru tradition.

I couldn't really say, darlin.'

I have lots of pagan books that cover pretty much everything that I could possibly want to know.

I'm fairly knowledgeable about it already but am just delving a little deeper into it lately.

My favorite movie of all time is "The 13th Warrior."
For some reason the funeral blessing almost brings me to tears.
Perhaps I was Norse in a past life?
Don't know. Just know that the tradition really appeals to me.

I'm a knowledge hound when it comes to the Old Religion anyway.

I've always been a pagan at heart.

If I happen to think of anything that I can't find though,
I'll let you know.
hug2 thankx

Hey FS, hope you appreciate my literary efforts this time:

*jt sings*
My chamois poi, you broke, your dead and fallen
I would try socks, but they're on Brandis feet
My dog, my dog, two tennis balls I've stolen
But thats OK, cause now I can spin all day

Okay, Okay!
Not bad, I must admit.

In my defense, at least over the tennis balls,
my dog could care less.
If it's not edible, she doesn't want it!

I guess I'll just have to take a picture of my poor, broken "Chamois Poi" so that maybe they won't seem quite so strange.

Seemed like a good idea at the time, anyway.

Hey, post the picture next to the NC coast or "The Temptress" (I kinda like that name!)

As soon as I can, I will post pictures of my new poi toy (but not the lumps or bruises on my body) hehe

My real name, Rebekah, means "temptress" in ancient Hebrew.

It's pronounced [reevka] which is kind of cool to me, although it's pretty much useless trivia to anyone who doesn't share the name.

My dog, Maedhb, is as nutty as a fruitcake!

A dog named Maedhb??? Now that is a new one on me. Help with the pronunciation please??

No trivia should be useless trivia. Mans goal should be to seek knowledge, not power. With knowledge comes power, but definetly not vice versa!!

Working on a new poi yet??

Had no time to work on the new poi, yet.

Maedhb is just one way to spell her name.
It was pronounced to me wrong when I first came across it as [mab] when it is actually supposed to be pronounced [maeve].

She's the Celtic faery queen.

ubblolYou guys know more about this side of the world than I do! Wicked! do you have any good links to sites about Norse/pagan history? There is a lot of historical sites here - Skara Brae and Ring of Brodgar as well as hundreds of burial mounds etc, but I love reading all thsi stuff, and at the moment I don't have all that much to do at work before I start my PhD.

I looked into buying some books and stuff before, but it's just so expensive, and the library in my town shuts at 5 o'clock during the week and at 12 on a Saturday....aaah - small town living! wink

There is one which is very good that I have called,
"The Everything Paganism Book," by Selene Silverwind.
She gives a very good overview of the pagan religions.

Gotta go right now but will come back and tell you more later.

Chelly, I am soooooo jealous. Your hometown is absolutely beautiful. Makes me wish I could come over more than ever.

I've been doing a very long assignment for my online class today so the tranquil pictures were just what I needed.

Check out the one of Emerald Isle in my gallery.
Not a bad place to be, either.
