Finally, we have a venue for play
Thanks for being so patient, the location for PLAY is now confirmed as being at Fordhall Farm, Market Drayton, Shropshire. TF9 3PS
The gates will be open from 10am Thursday 22nd June until 6pm Monday 26th June (yes that's FIVE days ) and will cost the princely sum of £25 in advance and £30 from two weeks prior to the festival. The tickets will be on sale from Sunday 2nd April right up until the event. The ticket price covers all facilities and events once onsite (bar, food & drink etc excluded of course) all workshops, the show(s), the childrens creche area etc etc etc
A beautiful organic farm set in the countryside (although 5 minutes from the town of Market Drayton) that will make for the most wonderful setting for this years (and hopefully many more) PLAY Festival.
(Please visit the Fordhall Farm website, they need to raise £600,000 by July 2006 to stop this beautiful fertile place from becoming yet another industrial development, if you can help their cause please do so
)
It has great links to the M6 motorway via the A53 and for non car users we will post all info about the local transport situation asap. There isn't a train station that's particularly close but we will be laying on a PLAY Bus to make collections to/from the station as often as possible to help everyone out. There may be a very small charge for this (ie a quid or two) to cover the cost of the driver etc.
I will keep this post updated and of course keep your eyes on the PLAY Website and forum for the most up to date information.
If you could keep your questions in the PLAY Forum we'd much appreciate it as it will help us keep some control and ensure we answer as many as possible. It'll save Malcolms badwidth a little too.....

Sorry Lynne, it wasn't impolite it was a simple typo.....it was copy and pasted from a master list that was a mixture of who had offered to do workshops and who we thought would be interested in doing a a workshop or two. Some of those that were unconfirmed got through the net when we filled the main guide for which we can't appologise enough and at the time we did speak to people (like liquid bubblegum) who raised issues with us. As it was only a rough guide that was firmed up on the black board I don't think it mattered much that a hoop workshop wasn't held by you.
I certainly didn't hear any complaints via Rossco that folks were asking for it and it wasn't available or from you saying you were put out by it.
I've said this a number of times now, any problems at the festival see me or another appropriate person (in this case Rossco) to get the matter sorted there and then and understand why something has happenned meaning folks aren't left feeling hard done to or have had their name used innapropriately.
We're all there to help and I didnt even know this was an issue you had, I spoke to you a number of times over the weekend and it wasn't mentioned until now when it's posted in a public forum (when really the matter should be taken up with me direct and in private given the personal nature of the issue) over two weeks after the festival started?!
Again we're very sorry, it's something that won't be repeated next year. And should the same thing have happenned to anyone else read post above and take a hug from me
Well it certainly wasn't my choice, I think my views on psytrance have been well covered but from the amount of people dancing to it and complaining when we turned it down at about 2am I'd say quite a few folks really do like it!.......As for why tho

I admit i hated most of the music too, I was very much relieved when i got to put my ipod on one afternoon and had a good old boogie to some funky oldskool east coast hiphop! (shame it ran out of battery really!)
it seems to me that the only way that a majority of people will be kept happy is with funky underground hiphop (which i slightly specialise in!) cos it seems this placates the people who dont like full-on psytrance/dnb mentalness whilst those people who do like the full on mentalness are generally still happy if theres something that isnt full on guitar business.

about the music:
i didnt like that metal band that played on friday (i think), because i dont like metal, because it's really too loud, they should've turned it down. besides, i dont think metal fits any kind of object manipulation, me and my friend were spinning to that and it totally killed the mood, i really think they should have another warm place with light to spin in at night, with quieter music (or no music), so that people that dont like the music played will be able to go there, i only stayed in the big tent because it was warm and had light and there was no wind to ruin my throws and wibbles. (i know dunc said that they're doing something about it, and it'll probably be solved the next festival)
and about the psytrance, i think it's really good for spinning, but i get bored really quickly just listening to it, probably because the songs are like 6-10 mins and are repetitive. but i liked it.
next year i hope they play some reggae, dancehall and hip hop, and if they play rock, that's cool as long as it's not really loud heavy metal.

And I don't care to take the time either. It's like macdonalds, I don't particularly care if people enjoy eating there, I'm going to take my time to belittle them and it, because I think macdonalds is bad, their food is bad and that people who eat there are practically equivalent to morons.

Ok instead of this subjective arguement about right and wrong music (which is never going to be resolved), I think feed back to the Play team would be much more helpful if you just made a short list of the things that you felt they got wrong and a list of the things you felt the got right. You can put a reason why you thought they were wrong or right and if you have an idea of a solution to the things you feel they got wrong post it. All this other bickering isn't really helping anyone.
Got right:-
The toilets- they were the best I'd seen at a festival in a very long time and were kept clean and stocked with loo rolls. Thank you to all the toilet cleaners.
The variety of workshops run along side each other was much better than I remembered last years being and they seemed to run in an order of easiest the first day working up to harder as the weekend progressed.
Having water stand pipes and toilets at the top of the field as well as the bottom I found useful. Maybe next year if we could fashion a trough for under the tap, so that you don't have to run the tap constantly to wash up, we could save water. Also if next year I brought some tall posts and some dark sheeting would anyone object to me building a screen around one of the taps so people feel they can strip off and have a quick wash. Some people asked me where they could wash and seemed not to like my idea of stripping off by the tap in the open.

Not the Play teams fault but I thought the food in the cafe was inconsistant. Some things they served up were tasty but other things were not so good quality. I know it's hard to turn out amazing food in a field but some of it was worse than I cook... and everyone knows I'm the worlds worst cook.
I said it before but the lay out to me was a bit wrong. I now know from answers above that this was due to power problems. I still feel that the festival would benefit from splitting the trading area from the noise of the big tent. Maybe I could look into wind/sun power for the traders so they could be situated futher over the field near where the cinema was. This would provide a 'quiet' night time area for people to come and chat and chill. I'm sure I can find some kind of solar powered fairy lights to string up so that people who want to have a spin will be seen.

Skully- i really like the idea of a screen around the tap. I put my bikini on when i had a wash and i still felt rude. It was right near the big top and people were walking past.
Also, you're totally right about the food. some of it was deee-lish! some of it was downright Bleargh!! thank god for morrisons! thank god for chocolate croissants!

but in terms of tunes, as seye can vouch i do have a collossal collection of funky bizness
and ive generally specialised in doing hiphop/funk/random sets which ive found generally can manage to please a big cross section of people even if i had no intention of pleasing anyone at all lol

Am really pleased that Fordhall farm got the place as it was beautiful. On the last night myself and the missus went for a walk down to the river and sat in the early morning glow and stopped hundreds of damson flys sleeping in the reeds really beautiful sight.

Simta's sets sound like the bizness. Thou I personally think that Gayles workshop had the most wonderful cheesy pop music. I still remember the moves whenever I hear the nelly furtado song...
I'd happily dance to anything from cheesy pop wedding music, to drum and bass, to bad house music, to classical music to awful mixes of classical music and pop, to mashups and bootlegs, to IDM, to goth rock, rock and pop rock, to the spinal tap soundtrack, (Not the dancer in the dark soundtrack thou) to the rock horror pictures show soundtrack, through hedwig and into hustle and flows soundtrack, past that in gangsta rap, hip hop and funk, ANIME soundtracks, cartoon soundtracks, french rap and folk, power ballads to eastern bloc modern gypsy music but then, that's dancing to music and I can't say I'd dance to one type for hours on end, but I do really LOVE cheese for dancing to.
Personally I don't really care that much about music, unless it's for dancing to. I don't go to concerts and get infatuated with bands. I don't listen to lyrics unless they're funny.

Yes, I was surprised to hear psytrance being played at play, especially on a friday night, when you'd expect music that wasn't [censored] to be played so that people would dance to it, and not just four people who looked like chavs who'd wandered in from the surrounding area.

If someone had said "Seye, go grab some tunes. You are on in 5." I'd have jumped at the chance. As I said earlier though - If other people want to play I'm not throwing anyone off the decks - I'd rather listen and take in what they are doing

Skully, Like your idea about the screen, but as I said before the festival grey water in a huge issue that would become worse if more people used the taps to wash. I understand people need/want to wash but under a tap isn’t the best solution for anyone; I think you’ll agree.
Over the next year I want to become more involved in working at the farm. They have working weekends that anyone can go to, and I would love to see then turning in to Hop meets of sorts where we can go and give something back to the farm.
I would like to persuade them to let us build them some facilities; more compost loos, showers and maybe things like a sauna in time. If we did that it would allow them to sell the field to other people wanting to run festivals/fates/fairs/markets etc and not worry about the facilities. Having said that, this is just a dream at the moment and I’ve not even talked properly to the other two partners in Play (Dunc and Strugz) yet, let alone Fordhall Farm!
The paper layout was good for the day time I thought. It had the stalls where they were with the café opening in to the marquee inline with them. The workshop area was right in front of the stalls and the marquee, meaning that the stalls would have been a large part of the festival. This broke down when Ray (the food guy) couldn’t physically go where we had him planned and seeing as he was already a day late setting up due to waiting on the marquee) I had to make a quick decision and put him where he was. I wasn’t happy with it at the time, but because of water and power there wasn’t much else I could do. I know you’re not having a go as such, I’m just letting you know what the situation was.
Where the layout fell down (even on paper) was in the evenings. We didn’t take in to account the noise at all. Consider it a lesion learned.
