wavehello I'm new at this and i wanted to know if anyone could give me some tips on what good things are to start with. I've been trying to learn but it's hard when all of my "friends" are to busy for me but i'm used to it. They like to say i'm too young but age is a number and i know that i want to do this and i'm thinking about starting off on Glow Sticks and at least learn the basics before i learn with fire but i'm really intreasted and if any one could help out it would be greatly wanted. help

Hello and welcome to HoP!

A couple of tennis balls in socks is a good way to start out, they hurt less than glowsticks.

Have a look at the free lessons here for some inspiration.

My state of mind is not yours to define!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Hello littletweekraver! Your friends are mean, go find some new ones! You can make a whole bunch of new friends here, and they're going to want to know [Old link] about you smile
You could also go and have a look in the meet others section and see if there is anyone else close who can teach you: it's always easiest to learn from someone else, though the tutorial videos should definitely get you a long way...

have fun!

Yeah I'm sure they do I've hit myself so many times with glowsticks so I'm kind of used to it. But aren't Glowsticks lighter then Tennisballs and socks?
thankx

welcome to the club! (the "US firespinners not living in california club")

sticking around here in case any other texans show up is always good. teaching your friends helps. being willing to drive for hours helps more. frown good luck finding people to play with. going it alone is always an option too.

texas?

its rife with fire spinners....

all my favriot american firespinners are from texas (ok, i only have two favriot fire spinners from texas, but thats a lot!)

as for the whole glowsticks thing, yeah, they are hevier, and if I were you id fill em with sand and make em even hevier, its much easier to learn when you have some momentum behind the poi. glowsticks are really squirrly.

oh and, Hello!

I'm from Dallas Fort worth do you have any one who is from there. Other wise there isn't really anyone around here. I don't really have time to drive a long way. One because I'm still in school and 2 because i have 2 jobs.

Hi tweek, if you search for Dallas in the Meet Others section, it comes up with six people - had you tried that yet?

Why don't you teach yourself.....that's what I'm doing. Look on the net for a few good sites, there's loads that have the basics on them (like this one for example sunny ) Then just go and swing stuff around........I've found that since starting to play poi, I'm swinging everything around lol

anyhow my 2c
