i've just been told today at work to 'stop the performance art' out on the grass of my crappy call centre data input work, i've been poi-ing during breaks since december, and recently been trying to figure out cartwheels, and untill today i've only had people say that they enjoyed watching me play, but today the boss says 'i've just had a meeting with my manager and he says the performance art has to stop'
i was just wondering if many other folks have encountered this kind of attitude
i think that if my poi and 'gymnastics' is staining the cold corporate image of my employer that they should just ban smoking too, i was never told when i started there 'you're not allowed to do things that look interesting'
anyway, i've only got two days of work left, and then i'm riding off to belgium
not a moment too soon

Refuse to stop spinning.
If they call you in to discipline you, tell them where you can stick their job
If they dont give you a reason for why you cant spin, then dont waste your time on them. They should have told you already anyway

sheesh! some people...
last year my goal was to mention firetwirling in every job interview & maybe even bring out the poi (i always have my smaller practice poi in my handbag!!). i mentioned it in EVERY job interview!!
i even brought out the poi in two! 
and in my last job interview last year (my current job) i got roped into twirling at a christmas party before i even got the job!!

yeah the grass is on the business property, apparently it's ok to play out the back but not out front, which implies that there is something wrong with what i'm doing but i just think it's so much better than sitting inside wasting the breaks or sucking on cancer out the back, perhaps if they encouraged some mental and pysical stimulation there would be a higher productivity rate and a less 'we hate this place' kinda vibe
but as stated before, only monday and tuesday left of work then the fun begins, hooray for travelling and playing and having fun

Both my parents say that should anything happen, the insurance won't cover us if they find sets of poi in the studio. Even if the fire started elsewhere. So it doesn't seem likely that I can spin at home with fire anymore...
This morning after excitedly sharing that I landed a gig for saturday, I got an entire lecture about spinning elsewhere since apparently the company has a "no side-businesses" clause.
This doesn't leave me very many options for fire-spinning. AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!! *sigh*
So lasersurge, you're kinda lucky you're leaving for Belgium. I'm still kinda hoping they'll realize spinning is actually a good form of stress-relief.

AHA! so im not alone, yes i have been asked not to perform this art....
JOB CORPS WILL TAKE AWAY YOUR FUZZY POI BECAUSE IT IS "DANGEROUS" some students protested it was cultural....they were punished....i do it in the baseball feild and security harasses me about it and tells me i might "hit some one" or "trip on those fuzzie ball things" im sorry but if you dont notice some one in the middle of a open feild on a sunny/overcast non rainy day swinging these bright yellow balls about them and have Techno blariging out their headphones then you deserve to be hit...especially if your not watching where your going, not to mention i fail to see how HOP's Nerfball wrapped in faux fur seem to be any threat...they did say i can spin in privacy off center or in my room....my room is 8x10 and add in a twin sized bunk bed and a large entertainment center and a desk, all i can do there is a simple move....i go to dances held here and spin with no trouble, mainly cause security never bugs me cause i got bright glowsticks on shoestrings then or i got my yellow fuzzies when im near a light source....

It's simple, move off their property. Do it on you own time. Dont do it in a uniform. They can't touch you! I work at crown casino in Melb and go across the river to the grass, with fire or just my glow staff, not a prob.

I love my job, yeah I might be in a kitchen but when theres nowt to do I grab either 2 large metal tongs and spin them (thats funny) or oven cloths lol... or if I fancy practising my juggling (bit risky like) I juggle lemons lol... just dont drop a lemon in a fryer, they explode if left in long enough....
thats happened a few times now, had to run n take cover from the starter section rofl

i use staff as a get away from everyone, and poi to relax so when i spin i dont have a care in the world what people think about it, if they think its stupid, dangerous or just crap! i dont really care as i enjoy just being alone spinning with no one to interupt!
