All my life I've been self concious of my teeth, they've never really been white and I've always had 'flurosis' I think it's called (little white spots/stains on my front teeth).

I used to hate smiling because I thought people were judging. I was teased in Primary School, some guy called me 'Popcorn Teeth' lol.

A few years ago I mentioned getting my teeth bleached and Mum and Dad said 'wait til you're older and we'll think about it'...Well I'm older now and I've been to the dentist and before I get my teeth bleached by the dentist I've got this do it yourself bleach. I had to get a mouthguard/tray fitted for my top and bottom teeth and was given solution to put in the little wells in the tray they made. I have to wear it overnight for 4-6 weeks.

It hasn't been easy. The side effects is that your teeth become quite sensitive so you have to watch what you eat and drink...even when I wasn't drinking or eating it was sensitive constantly. For the last week, every morning I'd get what I called 'the sledgehammer' in one tooth on my lower teeth - imagine a chisel being hammered into your nerve. I was getting so grumpy and miserable because of it, I really wanted to stop it because it was pretty rough on me.

I went for my two week check up and turns out a bit of root happened to be exposed for some reason so I just got a sealant there, no worries. I've been told to give my lower teeth a rest so I just do the top for a bit.

Anyway what I'm getting at.

I thought I'd post the amazing two week progress photos. I was pretty skeptical about it all but look at this!

Aside from the pain, irritation and the money it all cost. I think it's been worth it. I guess I'll have to post the end result in a few weeks.

Thanks for reading!

You're braver than I. I can't stand having my teeth messed with, and even the thought of visiting a dentist makes me cringe!

I already have sensitive, I'd be afraid what it'd feel like if I had them profesionally bleached. But I have tried the over the counter stuff, some of it works ok I guess

What exactly do I have to light on fire to get you to notice me?

Yeah I had braces when I was 14 for a year or so. I hated them at the time but I'm thankful now!

I always thought bleaching your teeth was really bad for them. It weakens the enamel doesn't it?

peroxide bleaching doesn't. some people bleach teeth with lemons, that can weaken the enamel by demineralising it.

There is a few things I've been told to stay away from in the first week, like orange juice becuase it's acidious or something.

Red wine stains your teeth and smoking is the worst thing you could ever do to your teeth and I unfortunately like to do both of these things.

For me it wasn't the temperature of foods or drinks...it was the texture for me. I couldn't eat a choc chip cookie without it bursting out with aches!

All the sensitivity is slowly dying down now, thank goodness!

I'm not really sure if it's bad or not, obviously if the dentist told me to it can't be that bad? I know that the solution I have iss 10% bleach. I think the most you can have is 20% - yuk! Imagine the sensitivity with that!

It's probably best to go and see your dentist and ask about it. He/she knows whats best. I wouldn't trust the over the counter/supermarket stuff...but I guess diferent countries have different stuff! tongue

Although it might cost a fair bit, I definately think it's worth it.

Argh, I've had so much dental work done over the past month out of necessity; I think I'm developing a phobia of teeth.

I'd love to have mine bleached properly; yours look amazing! How much is it, if you don't mind me asking?

My brain is about as useful as a chocolate teapot, but unfortunately not as tasty.

Squueee!
