So, it's coming up to christmas and I realised last night that this truly is the season of poi. Sure, it's hard to spin because it's so cold, and it's wet and miserable all the time, but if you've got to be outside you couldn't be better equipped for a nice improv poi session.

For instance, last night in a gig queue we held gloves by the fingers and did some basic moves. I even almost learnt the inwards overhead butterfly! And we made a valliant effort at turning a scarf into meteors.

So don't despair. I reckon santa hats would be pretty damn good, and extra socks for keeping your feet warm caould quite easily have gloves stuffed down them to make some nice spinning accessories.

Just don't spin fire with santa hats or beards on...that would be very very bad.

hey at least you could always ask for skin grafs for christmas.....

i think just strings of fairy lights would work, tie a few in the end in a knot for weight and.... well, stand near a socket i guess.... then spinny spin! voila, lots of ickle light trails!!

then for the staffers ... how about trimming back a christmas tree in the middle and twirling that...?

i'm not sure you'd have a choice with fairy lights... but methinks it's safer than mince pies.

isn't christmas day like the busiest time for casualty departments? i think there's a lot of people who miss the turkey whilst trying to carve it, or get too drunk and pop a champagne cork in their eye, choke on aforementioned mince pies, that kind of thing... SO many potential accidents!

you could wear rubber wellies to minimise electrocution... biggrin

Damn, someone beat me to it. I just went and tried my battery powered ones when I saw the bit about fairy lights. You need to shorten them quite a bit though because they have quite long flexes (sp?) and hold the bit with the batteries in so the cords don't get too damaged.

May have to go out once it's dark and try them properly smile

Double them up, and tie your beight at the bottom of each to keep them together.

This could be quite cool, actually. Bonus points for anyone who posts trails!

Two santa hats make surprisingly good poi.

I found that out at last year's santacon.

Just hold the top and spin. smile
