I just finished watching the northern lights or the aurora borealis for the first time. I am from upstate NY where this is highly unusual to see. Now it wasn't the full colored spectrum like in the artic circle but it was still pretty amazing. It was like the sky was dancing. After tonight I want to see the full aurora borealis during my life. What a great weekend I've had. I saw a good movie on Friday, saw Keller Willams last night, the Northern lights tonight, and spun a great deal in between. What an awesome weekend.

With I could see the northern lights. But I'm in England. What a wonderful miracle if only we could look through each other's eyes for an instant.

You don't have to travel all that far to see them though, a quick trip to northern Finland is all it takes. I remember seeing the Northern Lights once on a trip to Iceland...it was so spectacular, and so spooky!

I didn't see them in Sweden... but then I was in Gothenburg, which isn't particularly northern.
I did see more stars than I'd ever even imagined though.

For those wanting to know where/when to catch auroras in the world, have a look at:
Canopus Project
which gives a world map showing geo-magnetic effect and strength... and if you're in the UK - aurora have been seen as far south as Manchester before!

Wow! Definitly on my list under 'must see'.
Cole, cheers for the site links. I'm in Norway for New Years and if there's Aurora up north I might have to go hunting. If I'm freezing my butt off in -25 degree weather I might as well ahve something to look at!

i saw them last night too, in edinburgh. i was in blackford quarry, well away from an street lights, nd they were f*cking amazing. and you CAN see them in england. its been reported faily recently i think....

Yup, I've seen them in England before.
It was quite a few years ago now, on the moors in northern England.
They are amazing, and incredibly pretty.
I'm hoping to be able to see them more clearly when Spitfire and I move to Canada.
Lets steal a spaceship and head for the sun, and shoot the stars with a lemonade ray gun.

Dom? Hunting? Why does that not seem so logical....
And for those that aren't at the right latitude to see the Northern Lights, just rub your eyes really hard, it's basically the same thing.
