okay so more of this bush thing,

how do you reckon bush being re-elected will affect you home countries voting for their next president, prime minister etc??

i mean for example in the uk Blair has quite obviously backed bush (wether it be to keep america an allie (sp?) - a good place to keep the worlds most powerful country right?- or other) which in turn has enraged britons, involving us in a war we didnt agree with, and splitting the labour party. SO do we keep him in power? or do we vote lib dem or conservative??

i personally dont know who i'll vote for, they all seem as bad as eachother at the moment. but as i said what do you think will happen?

I think political frustration is at the moment almost everywhere all are complaining a lot but the responsebility doesn't grow rarely one stands up for his opinions there is just a lot of blah blah blah.

I feel almost numb today even it is not my country.

I think it's really going to depend on domestic issues, yes the Iraq war was highly controversial and has become like this little yapping dog biting at the ankles of the government, but i really don't think it should overshadow all the other issues. On the other hand, tony blair hasn't been extraordinarily effective at keeping people happy on issues of health funding and education... i think maybe his time is up, but i don't know who might get in, as you say not much of an alternative, the conservatives are struggling somewhat, and i think the lib dems have still got some way to go to get themselves firmly in the race..... we shall see what we shall see....

Personally I think it doesn't matter to our policies who was voted in the US; our lot are going to be their lickspittle no matter what.

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

When I got old enough to vote Thatcher was in power and I used to vote Labour. I thought if and when they got in the country would be a better place. Then Blair got in and if anything it is worse. I would never vote Tory on principal but now I would not vote Labour either.

It has taken many years for me tosee the truth but now I realise that they are all much the same and all as bad as each other.
I doubt that I will ever vote again, it's such a waste of time.

I am very actually scared of world leaders around the world bringing up issues like gay marriage, abortion, and every other irrational biggoted moral issue that seems to be more important to people then anything else.

In the most recent election here, one that basicly elects the people who represent various small communitys in my provincial legislative assembly (I think it's like electing state congressmen and senators in the US)

the hot topic issue hasn't been our roads being dangerously ill maintained, our failing healthcare system, our failing welfare, our rageing defecit (and the fact that we need something like 100 million dollars to fix our infastructure)

No, the big issue is rather or not it should be legal to go shopping on sundays.

That is the issue that has people fired up, and concerned about the election.

/me dissapears in a puddle of pesimism.

the belief is, either it is stupid not to allow businesses another day to do business (especially since people are driving out of province to go shopping in another province on sunday)

and or, shop keepers will lose money and go bankrupt and doom will follow (much like the banning cigarettes in bars debate)

Also, for most people it seems to be "god day of rest blah blah blah sit around bored in your house"

and I think it was Nietzseche who said dsomething like "only the working class christian west could succeed in creating the most boreing day of the week, and then enjoy it"

It is an historical standard in any ruling class that you keep the middle and lower classes fighting with each other so that they forget how badly they're being screwed by the upper 1 percent. That's why politicians and business leaders highlight issues that divide the people, jobs, race, religion, welfare, environment, national security, sexual issues, the economy, all of it is a smoke screen to keep the wealthy fat, happy & IN POWER.

In our country, Bush was voted because he found a common bigot amongst the populace, the religious right. He focused on issues like gay marriage and abortion because he knew he'd get the Jesus Vote, and it was enough to put him over the top.

People I've talked to didn't vote for an overall leader, they based their vote on one, maybe two issues, and that's why Bush got elected. You watch the next four years. We now have a republican presidency, senate, house AND supreme court, but you won't see much more about defining marriage, or imprisoning abortion doctors, or anything else the religious forces lobbied for. All Bush will accomplish is his crusade for oil, big business, and influence in the middle east by sending other people's children to die.

Yeah, I'm still a little jaded.

Dance like it hurts; Love like you need money; Work like someone is watching.

Never criticize someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes. That way, when you DO criticize them, you are a mile away, and you have their shoes.

oh, and emigrate to another country for an extra few years (or forever). should I stay in Germany, or move to australia, new zealand, mexico, canada, or somewhere else?
