I'd love to find some other Sydney folks to share a twirl.

I live in Glebe and am usually up for a twirl at short notice. smile

I used to twirl a fair bit when i lived in Adelaide, but since moving to Sydney have been pretty quiet. But waking up again now...

cheers,

ben

Dude!

you are indeed inhabiting the right suburb for firedancing! Weekly meets on Thursday nights at Jubilee Park (down the bottom of Glebe Pt Rd) from about 9.30pm onwards.

Do you doof?

I doof smile even put them on occasionally (www.users.on.net/flippy/drg/),

though really what i like doing most is chill spaces.

I do a sporadic sunday thing in the park at glebe if the weather is sunny,
(https://www.users.on.net/~flippy/thing04/slides/bass_monster.html)

and sometimes even when the weather is not so sunny. (like last sunday...)

even better, I live a 5 minute walk from the park smile - i was twirling down there on saturday night with some friends.

i'll come and check it out on thursday.

looking forward to meeting people smile

thanks,

ben

in German doof is stupid, maybe a bit more friendly, I guess it is almost the same in English

Ewwwww! Keep your cardboard fishes to yourself! That's raver stuff, definitely NOT doofer stuff. cool 'Rave' is a dirty word in my little underground subculture. ubblol

Essentially, I define a "doof" as being an outdoor psytrance gathering with a focus on community and spirituality as well as the music (and resultant trance state).

Ben - I have just seen your website and see that you are friends with Josh and Kate. smile J&K and I go waaay back.... they have even spent time sleeping on my living room floor! You know that Josh is a mod on this site?

I knew they were on here. they're pretty busy at the mo, so I didnt know how active they were. Me being here and them being there, i dont get to see them as often as i'd like (waves to J&K!)

for me, doof is spending quality time with friends, whether cooking food at camp, having a twirl, dancing, talking. Making each other laugh and smiling at everyone.

im an outdoor bush doof type, and you'll usually find me stomping it up on the fringes of things at dawn. I havent been to much since moving to Sydney - havent been able to find events with the kind of feel I like. frown still, an expedition to shpongle-land is coming up soon, so if any of you are going to earthcore in nov, ill seeya there. if you like your music funny, twinkly, sunny and irresistably, seductively danceable, then i highly recommend you take a peek at the lineup and take note of how many incarnations of simon posford are playing... biggrin

I know what you mean about Sydney events lacking that feeling - my man and I have almost stopped going during the last 12 months. There's nothing that has that majikal feeling any more and I'm tired of "phat". I like my fluffy morning Scando progressive. Unfortunately, Sydney is in a cycle of decadence and indulgence.... hardly any punters actually listen to the music these days - they just want it hard and twisted the whole time and at least 145bpm, otherwise you're a big wuss (or something like that!)

I can guarantee that this party https://www.trancendance.info/bluemoon/bluemoon.htm
will have the elements you are looking for. I work closely with this crew and can vouch for the depth and majik of their gatherings. They helped me out with my party from earlier this year called Progress and have, up until recent politics, been the caretakers of Sydney Earthdance. Top crew with heavy consideration for the esoteric elements of doofs.

If you're interested in coming to Blue Moon, give us a yell. Tickets are presale and you can get them from me if you like.

I went to EC last November, and as tasty as the lineup is (especially with Son Kite & Posford) I decided to save my money and will be going to Burning Man 2005 instead.

I looked at the blue moon site just the other day, actually smile i was very interested. i like the fact that they have a recommended reading list for party goers!

Sadly, im already committed that weekend. The australian shakuhachi festival is on, and theres no way im going to miss the opportunity to learn as much as i can. for anyone interested, there's a public performance given by the festival tutors. theres a couple of guys out from japan as well as riley lee and some of the other australian teachers. its on the saturday (same as the blue moon party frown ) at the sydney conservatorium of music. https://www.shakuhachi.org.au/

ahh well. i suppose i cant complain smile too many good things is infinitely preferrable to not enough.

I'd love to hear what else that crew were up to though. if they seemed like the right kind of people, I might see if they were looking for someone to do a chill at a future event.

thanks to everyone for the warm welcome too. im really looking forward to thursday now. biggrin

cheers,

ben

Hey Hey Hey Ben!!!

Wooo.... I never look at introductions, and it just happened that today I did. And I saw a little person called "anomalous" who lived in sydney and plays the shakuhachi ...and I thought....wooo that sounds like Ben... and it was . YAY.

So welcome. smile are you still coming down this week to Adelaide. We should be getting a drum circule happening Friday. We had one last week, and boy did we get some top drummers playing. I had a yak to them and they said they would come this week, and bring more. So it should be a good night.

Woo.. only 2 weeks left of prac.... then holidays... then 6 weeks of uni, then Earthcore....I am so hanging out.

Oh and Josh and I have been looking at vans as well.. so its all go go go....

Looking forward to seeing you Ben smile I will work twice as hard this week, so there will be extra time on the weekend to play.

Bye.
