Posted: Indeed they do hurt. I had a set of those before fire but now that Ive started spinning fire, Im more scared of the beamers. If you hit yourself a lot, I suggest staying away. However, I learned how not to hit myself a lot faster I think and learnt how to spin slow.
Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes. We'll blaze a new trail, and torch the rough patches.

Posted: Had a suspected fractured skull with mine, just turned out to be very badly bruised, thank god. Lesson learned; try out new moves slowly with something soft.
As long as you're not wacking yourself around the head all the time you should be OK with them as long as you give them the respect they deserve. There's a bit of an attitude I've seen which is "They're not on fire, they must be completely safe."
I recently developed dermatitus from contact with kero, and have been spinning the beamers a lot more until it clears up. They're now the core part of my collection.
There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

Posted: yeah, I received both a swollen knuckle (for 3 weeks!) and a very painful kneecap injury from beamers. I have 4 years of spinning under my belt, but beamers scare the hell out of me. I won't spin with them.
