I'm a newb guys.
And I wanna start using a proper staff instead of a hockey stick so i don't screw up my wrists.
how long do you think an appropriate staff would be for a beginning about 5'8?
what wood would i make it out of?
and tips(oh and i like to wood work so yea..)

Go buy yourself a good ash broom stick at a hardware store. For practice wrap a towel/socks/whatever arround the end and fasten them in with wood screws. That should get you started.
