i'm trying to get into changing this intro from time to time - at the very least to keep the music and films bit 'up to date'.

smile

name: cole[man]

sex: male

age: 27

location: i live in a veritable castle in leytonstone in east london with my beautiful girlfriend ubblove

i used to go to lots of workshops but i have to admit, its a fairly rare occurance these days.

your favourite website/s: this one is okay wink jugglingdb.com, contactjuggling.org, okayplayer.com, spherculism.com, playfestival.co.uk, magicbunny.co.uk, gettyimages.co.uk, toolband.com, airside.co.uk...

toys: i play poi and juggle balls. every now and again (like most people i think) i pick up other toys but am worse at all of these than i am at the keeping balls in the air thing - 97531, drop, drop, drop, drop, drop.

been twirling: since may 2002.

i could do the basic stuff (just a fwd and rev 3bt weave and a fwd butterfly) back in nov 2001 but then went and did a snowboard season in the alps and forgot everything.

when i came back, i discovered one of my best friends had learnt loads!

so summer 2002, i was in the lucky position of being around wikid poi people every weekend and having a friend acting almost as a personal tutor during the week.

big love and respect to jonny moohaahaa and fairie cath for all your patience, effort, guidance and days and days of playtime! hug

i began learning to juggle in august or september of 2002.

recent manipulation trends: been playing with one and two 4" stage balls quite a bit whilst wiggling bits of my body, learning to juggle 5 balls all over again, 3 ball body throws, getting confused about antispin, balancing things on my head and spinning a ball on my finger.

occupation: db admin and layout & design (similar to a porn star, just in an office). i work for a small, law firm in their information and research department. i also handle all of the firm's dtp, digital publishing and commercial print. aerotech toys aren't cheap and since my body won't ever make me rich, i have resorted to something a little more conventional smile

hobbies: bammy ubblove , this stuff, music, collecting things (i'm very bad for this) and boarding (although my skating is now non-existent due to me being crap and it hurting too much so just snow when i can afford it).

music: i like pretty much all of it. current playlist includes TOOL, RADIOHEAD, THE ROOTS, D'ANGELO and JEFF BUCKLEY, (and the rest) wayne shorter, a perfect circle, billie holiday, jill scott, joni mitchell, saul williams, john coltrane, soad, dj shadow, roy hargrove, 4-tet, edith piaf, cat empire, faith no more...

movies: recently seen... old boy eek team america, the last samurai, the ladykillers, the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, shaolin kung fu master, jackie brown, shrek 2, shogun assassin, midnight express, lotr, seven samurai & magnificent seven double bill, kill bill 1 & 2, confessions of a dangerous mind, eraserhead, princess mononoke, a beautiful mind, pay it forward, adaptation, waking life.

favourites... shogun assassin, requium for a dream, anything by lynch, kevin smith or the coen brothers or anything written by charlie kaufmann.

books: recent... hiding the elephant, illuminatus trilogy, philosophical investigations, a book on nlp, shogun, oracle night, peter cook '...only twin', the curious incident of the dog in the night time, lord of the rings trilogy (first time ever - it didn't disappoint!), the complete winnie-the-pooh collection, of mice and men, vurt (again), chocky, brave new world, dune, falling out of cars, alice's adventures in wonderland.

favourite authors... jeff noon, iain banks, robert anton wilson and comic/graphic novel writers that only fanboys like me have ever heard of (brian michael bendis, j. m. staczynski, kevin smith, alan moore, greg rucker, brian azzarello).

tv: was invented solely to distribute the league and the boosh to the masses.

favourite colour(s): both of them - black and white smile

favourite number: three - its magic don't ya know?

i never had a favourite number until last year so i thought i may as well put it up here with the rest of the useless information.

cole

and a quick note about that orange 'grumpy' face on the top of all my posts - i'm not mean or unhappy, nor does it suggest that i'm angry in every post i make.

i just think its cooler than the regular pin-in-a-post-it message icon. and it makes it easy to spot my own posts cos it rarely gets used by anyone else. and its orange and black.

hello lovely people (and you c@ntus you know i love fraggles really!).

i feel bad. i have a copy of the new (but as yet unmastered) radiohead album.
i'd feel really guilty if it wasn't so goddamn good!
listened to it three times through last night and i dare say it'll get a proper critique on the way to and from the bjc.
however, i still plan to buy it (as i did with queens of the stoneage, audioslave, beth gibbons and whatever else i download and listen to on the regular).

so, what i really wanted to say is - its really, really, *really* good.
like amnesiac and ok computer put together - if something can be that good anyway... and its not even properly mastered yet?!!??

RANDOM FACT ATTACK!

When Thom Yorke was at school he did contract work for the Muzak company making music for lifts and fast food places.

Sorry. Occasionally when people say particular keywords like 'Thom Yorke' or 'Emperor Tamarind' or 'Reversible Sedgewick' then it all goes blue and fuzzy.

When i recover consciousness there's random useless bits of trivia scribbled all over the walls.

I think its probably to do with that time those aliens took me and used my subconsciousness to store the data from a malfunctioning part of their ship.

i am starting to listen harder when i use lifts with music now though...

hey mima. new radiohead is electronicish with a little guitar. like amnesiac with a bit of ok comp too it comes out in may sometime - check out www.radiohead.com or www.radiohead.org for decent info on the second best band in the world.

i'm at home ill today
but i did spend the whole weekend @ the bjc which was superb (minus the cold and the lies - a promise of £35 for a weekend ticket? nope. all night indoor juggling space...? more lies ).
i did manage to spend way too much money, get some *very* good sweeties (started my glastonbury collection already!), some clubs (black and white fish) and loads of new balls
and i learnt a couple tricks too

mike - wtf is that hairy lump of shite doing there man? before i pay i need to know the exact price and which animal it was extracted from - i only collect the hairy shits of pedigree specimens...

ucof - hangovers suck huh? has it worn off yet? i plan to get one for tomorrow morning

mima - thank-you kindly for the egg. hopefully it is faberge cos i only accept those (eaten far too much chocolate and can now only handle very expensive, small doses). unless it is really an abode for chickens. which would be quite nice.

i was right in my last post - life could be far, far worse. its not great this week but its still miles away from crap.

looks like i get to spin on stage @ the fridge on friday i wasn't sure how i'd feel about that one - all my other gigs have been paid and weren't in front of other spinners. the fridge gets quite a lot of spinners there and i was a bit sceptical of whether i'd be up to it.
after doing a little bit @ the bjc (in front of *only* jugglers and spinners) i think i'll be okay now

the best ones are yet to come...

i pulled off a few isolated fountains on saturday and since, have had very little inclination to spin - kind of wigged myself out doing that move.

cheers for the fridge - now i just need a flat to put it in...

thinking about it, instead of the fridge, can i have one of those staffs you use - you know, the ones that stick to your body, are impossible to drop and repel other sticks so they don't hit when you use two of them?

looking forward to having a proper spin with yourself and the greater hop masses @ glasto... roll on june

I vote for coleman
Colemans waaaah better.

And the chicks love him.
He's ****ing hardcore nu skool,
compared to cole I'm grandpa poi spinner with ma lil walking stick.
But you really want to see something amazing, wait 6 months, then watch cole !!!!!

The only time I spin poi is about 30 minutes a week when coles round at my house.
come up with some dumb idea. then forget it again, till I see cole do it on video a week later with an extra twist.

But you know,
anyway...Poi.... I've done that.
completed it.
You know, got to the last level, killed the big boss, watched the credits.

Hugs yall.

well jon, you've said some crazy shit in your time but this has to be the most nonsensical thing i've ever heard you mention.

someone commit this man, please - dr lightning, can you certify people yet...?

and glass - you may well have completed poi but i've seen you still using that 'design your own levels' thing that they used to bundle with poi v.1 and you manage to confound all us beginners on an almost weekly basis.

*shudders at the knightmare scenario of a 'spin off' with any of my poi friends - i'd fold like a well scored piece of card*

Of Course Cole is better at spinning than Glass. Loads of people are, my mother for example. And she has only been spinning for about 10 mis. Did a 4 arm wave transfer just 3 mins ago. Splendid.

She's quite nice , my mum. Could be a better florist though

Anyway, back to the discussion. Cole does have a greater use of the amazed technique, I swear, one of these days he's gonna do a move that'll just make him drop the poi strait out of his hands. He won't believe it, but then, neither didn't I.

Glass though, he doesn't even play poi, you heard him!! He often utilises the slinky slinky technique, but I've heard he's resorting to slightly not allowed moves to woo the ladies. This coupled with being-rite-still group selection leaves crowds

Never seen either of them do a backflip though. Well, on paper maybe, but never really.

So the debate goes on. Maybe one day my mum will come spinning, and you can see were Cole gets all his really zany moves.

Who is Glass' muse we wonder. He claims Cole. But Cole claims him. It goes round and round like this. They call it practice. Slinky-monkey-amazed-fish-mind-meld if you ask me.

In retrospect. It's gotta be my mum. Definately.

Some things you have to see to believe, but
Some things you have to believe in to see.

i refer you all to page one of my intro where it clearly states i was visited almost exactly a year ago today by the roaming spirit of henry rollins, who through the medium of a solo maypole dance instilled in me the attitude of a sponge.
when i departed the astral plane (after a nice cup of tea and some scones with henry) i took this lesson back through to the material world where it translated into me asking to be taught everything i saw moohaahaa do with poi for the following 12 months.

evidently this has served me very well so i don't plan to stop

as for mumhaahaa... there's only way to describe her - 'incomparable'.

so it really is my spinning anniversary i would have been back from france only four days this time last year. my first saturday back in the uk i span fire @ hendon (3bt weave really fast - looked great ) and then soon after went to poi in the park (sneaked into the hop photo even back then!) which kick-started a serious desrie to learn this stuff.

this summer; *big* doubles

*looks longingly in the direction of edinburgh and wonders if a trip before glastonbury to get some sticks may be in order*
