i can't bloody wait - seems like much more than 10000 days since they released lateralus
mr carrey the drummer said this about the new album:
"We have the most retarded President we've ever had, and we're frustrated and that's the reason it's a little heavier this time. That level of frustration back like when we first got the band together: we were products of that f*cking Reagan thing, we were pissed off and bummed out, we had that angst, and now it's coming forth again: like it or not, we're products of our environment. We're pissed off again."

Oi right yep.
TooL blimey they're playing in Ingerland twice while I is not in afore-mentioned country. Bummer.
Oh yeah and it indeed is DOWN of Phil Anselmo fame and darn it they havn't played in Ingerland for about forever but they also play while I is away.
And yes Fantomas Melvins BigBand. They havn't played together since a Millenium NYE extravaganza which I 'appen to 'ave on CD. But again, I is not there.
BUT!! It is the Sankat Mochan festival here this wek, which is five days of the bestest Indian classical musicians, and it's free. So far I seen some dancin', some flootin, plenty of sitar and a nice lump of tabla.

spent this weekend doing little else other than listening to this album
its not lateralus 2
but it is good
highlights are 'the pot', 'right in two' and 'wings for marie' which is a beautiful, epic 17 minute piece split over two tracks.
its about maynard's mother - 10000 days is about 27 years, which is the time between judith's paralysing stroke and her death.
interesting fact from wikipedia:
"While listening to the track "Intension" backwards at the 1:30 mark, Maynard can be heard saying; "Work Hard", "Stay in School", "Listen to your Mother", "Your Father is Right""
coincidentally, this album comes out on the first of may and my birthday is on the second.
i'll be 27 - or approximately 10000 days old

What an album!!!!!!
I've had it on constant repeat on my iPod for the past few days. The first two tracks have a real Meshuggah vibe to them

this is still the only thing i've listened to for the last two weeks now...
i got some spiffy new headphones from me lovely lady for my birthday and re-ripped the album at high-quality for the old ipoddage - it makes a huge difference

Got the album today, listening to it now... I love it. My father and I are always b!tching and moaning about the horrid quality of music these days, (comparing to 70's stuff, normally) but this definately makes up for it.
The art on the CD case fascinates me, truly! I spent the first five minutes after opening the CD playing with it, getting dizzy, and almost completely forgetting about the CD itself
10, 000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) is beautiful... Hurrah for my first TooL album!

It's amazing, but then i didn't really expect any less.
I think it sounds like a fairly logical progression from Lateralus, a lot of the same themes are there. My first impression was that it's quite a chilled album - for Tool that is.
Without Tool, I'd have given up hope for modern music a long time ago.

I could understand people saying it's about his mother.. I think someone else mentioned that earlier in this thread. I like the way the music pulses, and builds upon itself through to the end... Gives it much more than your normal 2 and a half minute clip of thumping and noise. And the fact that they use guitars and not just vocals for the melody part, if you can call it the melody. These days it's just people singing, or talking fast.
There's such an embedded mentality in music these days. Intro, verse, chorus, verse 2, bridge, chorus... Tool always sounds so much more original and creative, they don't really follow the patterns as much... I appreciate that, really.

as for the whole maynard and his mum thing - it totally blows me away.
listening to judith from back in the day and hearing the near 20 minute tribute to her on the new album (not to mention effectively naming it after her) tells so much.
wings part two has brought me to tears - its usually this bit that's responsible:

they are squeezing in a few gigs between the festivals - i have tickets to see them in london in june...
i should think they'll be doing a full 10000 days world tour this/next year though so i wouldn't worry too much.

I believe that Cole speaks the truth. The world as we know it, would surely pause while I cut sick.
Maynard would not do that to me. Surely not... release pure gold on an album and then not allow me to be triumphant and jubilant in the celebration of their live music.

couldnt pass by this growing tool inspired consciousness.
downloaded this clip of a fan jumping on stage with maynard, - he goes to hug him then flips him over in a headlock and just keeps on singing. its [censored] classic.
definitely the next level of music........
