Hi All, I'm Clare,I'm 23 and from Devon, UK, where Poi is very rare compared to the rest of the world! I'm kinda new to this Poi spinning myself - (found it completely by accident looking for fire and light batons!) and fell in love with the idea of poi and with this cool website! So, i thought i'd join in to get some tips and tricks from you all!

Would also like to see what fun new poi i could buy to kick start my collection off! Any recommendations will be much appreciated! I am already an experienced baton twirler and love the look of the fire battons / staffs....and poi maybe when i get better at it (training videos here i come!) I will have to save my pennies first though as i could easily spend a fortune in the online shop! (not that it's pricy - it's fantastic, i'll have my team of young people spining in no time atall! there is just so much to choose from i want all of it! lol!) If anyone can recommend a good starting point that'd be great! (especially practice / training for under 16's)

On a more sociable note, I hope to meet lots of interesting new people from around the globe in my lifetime, and it looks to me like here might be a good place to start?! wink What do ya'll think?!

OK Doc, cut and paste seems to do the trick! so, here it is, my intro, as designed by Doc L...

Name: Clare / Jay / Blinky [depending on where i was in the world and how old i was when you met me!)

Location: Devon, UK

Hometown: Thurlestone

DOB: 24.09.1982 (PS: I want lots of poi toys for my birthday!)

Age: 23...not quite 24 (Ahhhh!)

Sex: female

Occupation(s): Creative Director / Producer, PR Girl & Youth Worker (yes i know it's random but it works for me!)

Favorite Food(s): Roast chicken with all the trimmings except stuffing (yuk!)

Favorite Color(s): Blue and anything bright and glowing!

Toys: staff, batton and poi (preferably glowing as i'm not brave enough for fire yet!)

Hobbies other than the obvious: Baton twirling (the sport) powerboat racing, street dance, going to gigs, filming, editing (oh no, thats 'work' these days!) and socialising with friends and their kiddies! Acting / performace, directing, playing musical instruments...etc etc!

Education: i got plenty....so why i am going back to college to get my NVQ2 in youth work?!! [because the pay me to, that's why! new UK regs!]

Favorite Book(s): true life 'stories', anything with moving and 'human' based content!

Favorite Movie(s): All the disney's, anything funny, anything starring the legend that is samuel l jackson or the lovely will smith, cuba g junior...what? they are excellent actors!

Favorite TV show(s): don't watch too much telly, but am quite intreaged by LOST....though please nobody tell me what happens - i know you get it before we do!

Plans for life in general: (i.e. what you want to do when you grow up) 'When i grow up, i want to.....have a sucessful business, work with young people in africa, go on safari, travel the world, eventually find a nice guy to marry and have kids with (but not til i 'grow up'...which is ages away!)' the usual i guess, but i'll have alot of fun doing whatever it is i decide to do!

Favorite Music Artists/Composers: I like undiscovered, uncommercialised talent - but also r'n'b, garrage, hip hop, reggae and ragga, dancehall...etc! anything that's good to move or twirl to, you would probably find me moving to!

Favorie ice cream flavor(s): that's easy! Chocolate. White Chocolate, mint choc chip, dark chocolate, light chocolate, cookie and chocolate...you see a pattern forming here? Oreo cookies and baileys is good too, and i like honeycombe, but as a rule, you can't go wrong with...chocolate! lol!

Marmite, Vegemite, or Nutella? (please choose one...this is important as it is essentially this site's equivalent of stating your religion...we have religious wars, crusades, cathedrals to Nutella, all that.) Marmite? love it or hate it? HATE IT! Vegemite? never tried it, don't intend to either! Nutella...well, it has nuts, but that can be forgiven, because it also has the best ingredient on the planet - and it tastes great with pancakes...NUTELLA Wins hands down!

Well, you asked!! Nice introducing my crazy self to you all....don't be scared i'm a friendly nutter, honest!!

Good to see another new face, Clare/White Tiger. I came in to this site to say a quick hello ( I'm really a juggler, not a poi-head) and decided to hang around because the vibe was good. Best of luck.

Hello Clare, welcome to HoP!

My state of mind is not yours to define!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Aahh, you are all so nice! it is lovely to be in such friendly company!

bubba badger, i like your thinking (trees are good!),

mr. smith - i hope you will stick around, i can't juggle, but i imagine it is like trying to control poi balls with no chains! lol!

Doc, some nuts are good, depending on what you plan to do with them! (clean thoughts only please people, i merely mean, eat them in a chocolate spread or feed them to the squirrels, onbviously! - don't know what you were thinking though!) > not meant to be sexist i promise, i just don't like the flavour of nuts! anyway, nutella still rules!

Ry, Bright, glowing and nuts. I like you already!

Bird, i have to agree, but the question is, are we hobbiests, or just plain mental?! - perhaps a little of both!!

Very nice to meet all of you, thanks for the warm welcome!

Well there's your first mistake right there. Expecting Dr Lightning to think clean thoughts is like believing Hitler when he said he was just going to park his tanks near Poland for a bit...

Hello White Clare Tiger!
I noticed you were asking about meeting other UK HoPpers/spinners./ Get yourself along to the Bristol Juggling COnvention in September... there's 9 days of it so you should be able to haul up from Devon for some of it.... I won't be there cos I'll be back in Australia... but I can tell you that spinners by and large are the friendliest bunch you;'ll come across. Just wander about shouting *NEWBIE* COME GET TO KNOW ME and someone will look after you. Alternatively wander around shouting *PING* and you'll be amazed at the response wink

.....Can't juggle balls but I sure as hell can juggle details....
