I've a date saturday. If anyone happens to know anything about nyc, its at the orchard, on the lower east side.

Now, what the heck do I wear? Its hot, summery, but I havn't got a tan... the restaurnt is casual->dressy, he tends more towards casual in my expirience but I should probably split the difference. We're going back to his to watch films afterwards.

Now, help!

Um, a thin, flowing skirt that will be comfortable and a matching nice sleeveless number of some sort, some comfortable, cool shoes so your feet don't stink, and clean underwear.

Which is why I recommended the clean underwear. ubblol

Bah, velcro gets stuck on things. tongue

Doc, I swear to you I've got the underwear figured out. tongue I've even got a decent idea for a shirt and necklace, but I'm feeling the desire to buy a new skirt..... My current options are one which is flowy but medium weight cotton (brown) a knee length silky form-fitting-ish one (purple/cream) and ... yeah... nothing else is even kind of going to work given the restraints. The shirt is navy, the jewlry is pearl/moonstones/silver (its a very pretty necklace)

Then it's the purple-cream skirt. Unless you've time to go go shopping for a new one.

I may in fact go shopping for a new one, but the colours do look pretty decent.

shoes. white, brown, or black heels, or black flats, or black semi-chunky slightly raised but not actually heeled shoes? They're all sandals, essentially, tho different styles. Hmm, might need to look for another handbag as well unless someone has a suggestion?

small bag, black. Dont buy a new one unless you want one for yourself, most guys hardly notice your bag until it gets to suitcase porportions and they have to carry it for you!

A guy here just told me it is always best to just not wear clothes. He *says* he does not care about my clothes, or my shoes, or my bag... go for lipstick and moisturizer if I absolutely must put something on! " Or a sheet looks good"

lol

buy yourself a nice sheet and some lipstick!

Wait eek This date of your's sounds suspiciously like a boy! I'm pretty sure I specifically told you to avoid boys....

I'm not condoning this sort of behaviour, but if you really must.

You know you can't go wrong with a sack. Or I suggest something high-necked that also covers your ankles (you don't want him getting any funny ideas). Maybe something like this:

hehehe! Well, I called zel and we decided on what i was already thinking, which is brown bag and brown heels (since the heels get compliments for what they do to my legs and what american guy who's straight will look at whats actually attached to them?) which is kinda what i was thinking already. The bag is a little too... stuffy, methinks, but unless i happen to find a new one suddenly... *shrugs* so, hair down or messy updo, and if so what kind? (Its long these days, longer than it is in my gallery photos even)

You're telling her to wear white shoes and a purple/cream dress on an evening date in New York City? Why not just have her wear a gingham shirt, overalls, straw hat, and a piece of hay sticking out of her mouth?

Don't you want the guy to at least get to know her before he realizes she's a freak? wink

At least she'll have no problem picking up gay men and straight women since they approve of what she's wearing. wink

I say go with the brown. It's the new black. At least it was back before black became the new black again. But at least it was black at some point.

Anyway, it really doesn't matter since it's all going to look the same crumpled up at the foot of his bed.

well girl, hope your date rocks!

All this talk of messy up do's and new undies got me a little , er, inspired, ya know, so I bravely, or foolishly, set up a little action for myself tomorrow night!Eep!

Now, the question is: what *to* wear?

I am not going for the sheet/lipstick option that my pal recommended, this is a potential new man, don't want to scare him off that fast! lol

Seriously, everyone here wears random tie dye and gumboots- barefoot in summer- but I want to be a wee bit less hippie chick than that.

Summer dress?Black, red or purple, short or long, tight or flowy? Red thigh high boots? sexy sandals with bells on the toes? Hair, loose, or contained? Makeup? Glitter?

Ah, I so rarely even think of these things. You have twisted my mind!

It is dinner on the beach, then a party at a friends- where there is likely to be lots of crazy dancing- and a midnight lake swim after...

Ideas for attire?

Andrea - I can see you in a short, flowy dress with sexy sandals and your hair contained (I love the idea of containing hair smile ). And never mind makeup - just roll yourself in glitter biggrin

I hope both your dates are great! hug

Molly, I realized last night I dont actually know how to contain my hair?! Is a braid too hokey for a date? Kyrian how are you doing yours?

Containment may be futile.

Dress: on your advice: short black and flowy, the sandals are strappy embriodered colourful turkish things. Underwear, clean.

Anything I am missing?

Oh yeah, no purse, wont need stuff. tend to lose stuff anyways. The guy has offered to handle the dinner...I will carry nothing but a bottle of nice wine and a chocolate bar.

Off topic: Molly, wont be seeing you at BM, sorry! Have fun. Will likely be in the UK again. Or not. Undecided. Some BM people may be coming here to party/relax after the Playa... Come!Come!

well for a straight man's opinion here. I would have to say that if he really likes her then besides dressing nice... don't mention ex-boyfriends at all(and esp dont compare him to them - unless he's better of course!)

now all this talk about a restaurant date made me realize i need to take MY girlfriend out for dinner tonight (she's been babysitting her sister's kids (2 sets of twins, 3 1/2 & 7 with the boys being identical twins)

Can't really help much with the hair because my hair never does what anyone wants it to do, so the concept of a hairstyle is somewhat foreign to me, but the clothes sound great!

Andrea, you want to look LESS like a hippie? Get off this board!!!!! tongue

As for myself, I'll probably have my next "date" in about 2 weeks if everything works out with booking flights and so on. How sad's that, eh? But at least I know I don't have to worry about my clothes ubblol
