I know i don't post that often but i got nothin but time right now.....

i was in a small flammable incident

me and a friend were spinning and we were in full swing, some idiot came over and started playing with the fuel, i didn't see him doing it, and set his hand on fire, trying to be kool, which wasn't serious, but when he started flailing his hand around and some flame got in the container (had about 3-3.5 litersleft), which set on fire......

he kicked it to try and put it out and it punctured a large hole in the side of the container, the airborn fuel was bee lined toward some stranger which was watching my buddy spin, while i was putting new split/key rings on my poi. i full out body checked the stranger outta the way and i tried to get outta the way myself.....

i was hit with the can, and 75% of the fuel in the process......

as of now, i just finished rubbing aloe vera all over my arms, chest and part of my left leg

i think the 3 worst outcomes were, i had to wait 1 1/2 hours at the hospital to get admited before they realized how bad it was then i was put in emergency, 2nd my fav hoodie was burnt to pieces, and i had to peel it off myself, and 3rd, i can't take pain killers because i'm allergic to codiene, I've built up an amazing pain tolerance though because i can't take pain killers

all in all.... i had an interesting few days

P.S. - The stranger is perfectley fine, i gave him one big bruise about the size of a melon on his arm when i hit him, i never got his name, but apparentley he's gonna be visiting me here, at the burn unit

P.P.S. - God can't save the sorry soul who kicked the fuel container after i find out where he is and who he is

Glad you made it out of that with out even more damage . I think just about everyone who has spun fire for any length of time has at least on fire story..I know I do I had a fuel jug go up as well..And was very LUCKY no one was hurt .
Now that you made it out of this ordeal alive.
I hope you are looking at what you can do so it never happens again ..perhaps looking for a different fuel jug that you cant poke a hole in ..Or a fuel dump that if your jug goes up it can be controlled.I always opt for a good fuel dump cause that covers spills as well.
What I did was make a fire box from an old metel cooler got it off ebay for like 5 bucks
I replaced the gasket with a kevlar one to keep it air tight during a fire..
Doesnt matter how good you are you are going to make a mistake sooner or later I hope your ready for it.

I have been cursed with the imagination to envision it all

Shit Ouch. Next time keep an eye on your fuel (or when spinning get someone you trust to watch it. Ouch Ouch, geting simpathy pains. And hugging fav hoodie. That moron who decided it would be a good idea to light his hand on fire wouldn't have gotten that far with me. As soon as I saw him going for the fuel I would have been - Using my drill voice (for those who don't know a drill voice is a voice used to call commands on parade in the millitary) - HEY! Get the FUCK away from that fuel. If he wasn't a fellow fire spinner of yours (which from your decription he wasn't) he had no business with that fuel.

I've never had a fire exp. But I have had some pyrotechnic's exp.... but we won't get into that right now. Never sent me to the hospital though

I'm sorry you got burned They're some of the most painful injuries one can experience, and I hope you get better soon.

It sounds to me like you were really lucky in more ways than one. If someone else had gotten burned instead of you, you could possibly be in jail right now. Or you could be getting sued. If you lose a lawsuit for $1 million, good luck getting ANY loan until you pay it back... with interest. Claiming bankruptcy won't even help.

Everyone should be mindful that what we do is dangerous, and should not become complacent. Regardless of the fact that Joe Blow set himself on fire, it's still your responsibilty if someone can prove he wouldn't have had the oppurtunity if it weren't for you.

Where was your safety?? Shame-shame if it was you! A safety's job is to look for stupid people, as well as keep the spinner safe. Did you have a fire extinguisher next to your fuel dump? After all, a fire extinguisher is cheap insurance!

I'm not writing this to chastise you, because I'm sure you'll be one of the safest spinners when you heal. I'm writing this so everyone who thinks it won't happen to them will take a second thought about SAFETY, and how they operate, especially in a non-controlled envirnment.

Be prepared, because if can happen, IT WILL!

Get better soon!

It sounds like you were very lucky and unlucky at the same time.

sometimes we can get very slack about our fuel dump when in a public place, especially when nothing has happened in the past.

Unfortunately, it is dangerous and irresponsible to assume that other people undertsand the dangers of the fuel (even other firies sometimes).

We need to treat our fuel dumps like a cache of loaded guns, always keep an eye on them and NEVER trust the sense of stangers or friends who might want to mess around with it.

I'm truly sorry to hear you have been badly burned, burns are perhaps the most horrific of accidental injuries when comparing the pain, infection, disfigurement and healing time.

I am a bit confused about exactly what happened though...

Some guy played with your fuel dump, set it on fire, kicked the container, which then had a hole in it and it jetting a stream of flaming fuel towards another onlooker?

- It seems to me you have an odd fuel container.
- How did the fuel from the hole get set alight, surely the flame was in the top of the container, not the side?
- How far away was the stranger from the fuel dump?
- Does this mean the fuel was under pressure of some sort?

Sorry for all the questions, its very important that every accident we hear of is reported in as much detail as possible, so everyone can learn and future incidents prevented.

I hope the burns were only superficial

Tigur, sorry to hear about this. That really sucks, but your heroics are admirable. you say you're from "Beaumont." We have a hospital around here in Royal Oak, MI called "Beaumont." When I first read this post, I wondered if you meant that's where you were...then I realized you're from Alberta.

Too bad, I'd go visit you otherwise.

Heal quickly.

Righto folks,

playing with fire is not dangerous at all if you do it right you know?

Don't keep your dipping thing right next to your fuel container. Keep the lid on the container. The fuel in it should only be paraffin, kero or your equivalent. Don't keep the dipper on something that'll go up such as dry grass. IT'S YOUR FUEL LOOK AFTER IT yeah?if you're playing and you've got no one else looking after the fuel then you should be. It's your fault mate that the loon started to play with it. And what was your hoodie made out of, 100% cotton?

I've put out plenty of people, helped on to hospital and been to hospital myself, only for a bizarre incident where I learnt that if paraffin soaks into your clothing and into your skin it just dissolves the skin to red raw oozing bleedingness. Funny that 1st degree burn with no fire near it. I have set my clothes on fire, my hair on fire many times and never ever had a serous burn from playing with fire. I've also given up fire breathing, I've decided it's not big or clever and will do it once a year.

You should just be cool about it, I have put out people after others have failed to do so and thus prolonged the burning. It's a matte of being bloody stupid that gets you into hospital and it is your fault, your problem because you are meant to be the experienced one who bought the fuel and was meant to be looking after it. And try to use a metal dipper.

There you go,

love,

Ian

I put some of your contradictions above. The first and last were from the same post. The middle was from the first post and a reply post of yours.

I find if hard to believe you were putting on new rings while in full swing.
I find it hard to believe that you think bees "arch" in flight. The term "bee line" is a straight line.
And I find it hard to believe you're putting on aloe yourself in the burn unit. Burn Units are for 2+ degree burns and Aloe is for topical burns (1st degree.) Also, I couldn't bring a cell phone into the hospital area, so a computer probably wouldn't be allowed in there.

Lots of inconsistencies. Thanks for the story.
