The n00b template, as instructed...

Name: Wayne

Location: USA

Hometown: Nashville, TN

DOB: Sept. 17, 1982

Age: 23

Sex: Male

Occupation(s): Law Student

Favorite Food(s): Krystal Burgers

Favorite Color(s): Orange

Toys: Beanbags, Rings, Clubs, a pair of foxtails that I turned into poi, a unicycle, two guitars, a bass, an Xbox, and a wife.

Hobbies other than the obvious: My toys made all my hobbies obvious, except perhaps that I made Halo 2 fanboi parody songs. It's probably the geekiest thing I've ever done. While searching for ways to top that, I found this site...

Education: B.S. in Business Administration, minor in Bible, currently in Law School

Favorite Book(s): I just finished "Enders Game" by Orson Scott Card and was very impressed with it. I'm also a big Mark Twain fan.

Favorite Movie(s): Lord of the Rings, Hero, Gaslight.

Favorite TV show(s): I never watch TV, but I started watching "24" on DVD and found it to be truly awesome.

Plans for life in general: (i.e. what you want to do when you grow up): There are those who say that there are already too many lawyers in the world. To those people, I say this: There are not enough lawyers who do poi.

Favorite Music Artists/Composers: Right now I mostly listen to the ApologetiX.

Favorie ice cream flavor(s): Moose Tracks

Marmite, Vegemite, or Nutella? (please choose one...this is important as it is essentially this site's equivalent of stating your religion...we have religious wars, crusades, cathedrals to Nutella, all that.): Well... I've only had Nutella, and it was only one small bit on the end of an animal cracker. A classmate of mine had brought it back from a trip to Italy, and insisted that I try it. I've never heard of the other two products, and I don't think any of them are widely available in Tennessee. If this is this site's equivalent to religion, then I would have to say that I have yet to be evangelized.

So now that I've finished that, I guess the only thing left to say is how I came to this site, and to poi. I hit a plateau a few years ago with juggling, and haven't really tried any type of object manipulation in a while. Recently, I got my old suitcase full of juggling equipment out and started surfing the internet looking for new tricks. While I was browsing, I occasionally saw references to "poi" and wondered what it was. Finally, I got linked over to this site and was intrigued by the idea. It seemed relatively easy to get started with, and I figured it would be fun to learn something new.

God in his infinite wisdom decided a long time ago that he should get random people to give me 2 "foxtails" which are basically rubbery baseballs with long nylon socklike "tails" sewed onto them. They are cool because you can play baseball without haveing to use gloves (the tail slows it down, and you can catch and throw it by the tail). However, there was no reason at all to own two of them (or so I thought).

Now I understand why God had me carry around two foxtails for so long: He wanted me to start doing poi. After looking at some of the lessons on this site, I thought it looked cool and wanted to try it. I realized that the sock poi looked just like those two foxtails I had out in the garage, so I ran out there and started swinging. I managed to learn the forward and the reverse butterfly, and the 2 and 3 beat weaves last night. Today I started working on BTB moves.

The foxtails have played their part and gotten me hooked. However, they are too long, too heavy, and too painful to hit myself with, so I decided to order the ball chain practice poi/DVD from this site. I saw a video of a guy using that type of chain and it looked like a good kind to get, plus I think I can buy beamers to put on the chains later.

I doubt I'll ever get the courage to try fire, but while looking for the foxtails in the garage I also found a wooden pole that seems like it might work well for staff spinning. I may try to get into that as well.

I guess thats all I have to say for now... except that Ravehead's avatar pwns.

Welcome, Wayne!

You're a Nutella-ite. I've decided. This is mostly based on the fact that you are American and thus must, by definition, hate yeast spreads. Furthermore, I'm a Nutella-ite and I'm evangalizing you. "You will convert or I will chop off your head and baptize your corpse." Really, this for the good of your own soul.

So you're a law student? We have/had a lawyer (Regyt) on the board.

But Tennessee? I'm from Michigan originally and I have to say that Tennessee is one of the places that I might actually like less than Michigan...

But what's with the 917? That's the Manhattan area code.

The 917 is my birthday, and it makes it more likely that I can get the same profile name on everything so I don't have to remember multiple identities.

As for lawyer jokes...

A Russian, a Cuban, an American and a Lawyer are in a train. The Russian takes a bootle of the Best Vodka out of his pack, pours some into a glass, drinks it, and says: "In USSR, we have the best vodka of the world, nowhere in the world you can find Vodka as good as the one we produce in Ukrainia. And we have so much of it, that we can just throw it away..." Saying that, he open the window and throw the rest of the bottle thru it. All the others are quite impressed.
The Cuban takes a pack of Havanas, takes one of them, lights it and begins to smoke it saying: "In Cuba, we have the best cigars of the world: Havana, nowhere in the world there is so many and so good cigar and we have so much of them, that we can just throw them away...".
Saying that, he throws the pack of havanas thru the window. One more time, everybody is quite impressed.
At this time, the American just stands up, opens the window, and throws the Lawyer through it...

Hey smile

Nutella is prolly available in tennesse, it'll either be by the peanut butter (where i've been seeing it in america for the past 5 or 6 years) or still hiding in the international foods section if it is newer to tennesse. I've been able to find it in MI since I was about 6, so if you live near a big grocery store (or go near one) you should try it biggrin

As for the lawyer bit, have fun with that.... everyone always said I would make a good lawyer but with no desire to ever go to law school.... yeah.

Glad you found a use for those foxtails tongue biggrin
