Hello to the universe as it is. Seeing as you have a board for just such introductions, I decided to say hello to you all, and sort of tell you how I stumbled into here. And, more correctly, what I'm lurking on about. I'm a little shy, so I'm sticking to my nickname of "Socks" for now.

juggle As you can probably tell by my icon, I'm more than a little strange. No, I don't look like that always, just when I'm having fun performing at conventions and such. Putting on a costume is almost permission to act a little strange, so when I pull out the juggling stuff it's seen more as a performance. The jokes just flow naturally, we all smile a lot, we all have a good time with the instant show.

Last weekend I went to a con / party with friends from all over. I had spent the day "passing it on" to people who were 100% "convinced" they couldn't juggle. There's a reason my in-pocket set of balls consists of tennis balls that are "flat", they don't bounce far when they get dropped. But I dragged my stuff with me to the dance that night. And among the glow sticks and headbands, I tried to do a little of my thing. I failed miserably, but I tried. It's that whole "in the dark" thing? Yeah.

I was sharing with someone my juggle balls, and I said I'd return in a while with something hopefully more visible (which I meant as some white-based juggle balls). His eyes lit up and he said "You have glowers!?!?" Now I'll be honest, I'd never HEARD of glow balls for juggling, but I determined to find some. And "Google" led me to HoP.

I surfed around a while, and looked at the staff lessons online. eek Hole... leey.... Mackerel.... Haven't spun staff in years (self taught, and it shows... I think my knees are still bruised....), but I think I'm going to start again just based on those vids. Not to do fire, no way. I'm injury prone as it is and I don't need to "torch" myself. But glow staff? I can do that.

If I can make it look half as graceful as she does, I can live with that. And after being in the dance, and seeing that what the guys with the glowsticks on strings were doing this weavesmiley, I think I have a new hobby in poi too. I can pick this up, and look at least competent doing it. (darn you ravers! tongue )

So just a thankx to HoP here, for rekindling something I haven't touched for a LONG time. I'm hoping to learn a little while I'm here, you know about old dogs and new tricks. I'll be happy to be able to do up to lesson 7 in the freebies. wink I'm planning on lurking, and just learning. But since my main source of buisness is freelance video, I'll conjure one up for your collective amusement. But I can guarantee you that it'll be... well I do all my performance in "suit", so it's not your usual spinning routine by any means. ubbloco

Just wanted to make a VERY long-winded thank you to HoP, and I'm hoping I can actually add something of content to the forums too. And I'll try not to abuse the Graemlins too much while I'm here. ubbangel

I'm weird. Just work through that and we'll all be fine.

hello and welcome to HoP.

I must say this is an oddaty, an introthread without the phrase "tell us more about yourself" concrats its a true acumplishment .

Were did you get your dog mask from? it's a great idea that i might have to steal if i ever get around to doing a prefomance (not so much due to shyness (althought that is a factor) but more because my ear to ear smily scares the hell out of me so imagine the damage it could do to a group of innocent bystanders biggrin )

do I like pink? Umm, it's like red but not QUITE....

And for Ifrit, the mask comes from a place called "Lyonshel" here in the US. It's a 3/4 mask with the chin exposed, and copious ammounts of makeup after that. I think they do exports as well. It's the most comfortable mask I've ever found for long durration wear. And when I say long duration, I wear the suit for 5-6+ hours at a stretch when I do. I know there's a gal in the UK who makes similar in a more "hyena" and "rat" look, if I can needle her web site out of her I will. smile

Oh and Bird, I can see getting a few more addictions in my life... **sigh** Well, at least it's not bad for me. Bad for my knees and my skull when I whack it, but not for me.... Should I be getting out by snowboard helmet before attempting poi balls? weavesmiley

wow... Global comunity... I feel so humbled... **faints** eek

I'm weird. Just work through that and we'll all be fine.

Sorry to reply to my own stuff here, but I finally found the site I was looking for. https://www.kangena.co.uk/
They're based in the UK, and you need to do a little more work to get them on (spirit gum. yay...) but, they have some styles Lyonshel doesn't.

Ok, I think I can let my own introduction post go. redface

Hi Socks!! I just looked at your profile and it says you have JUGGLING PENGUINS!! I tried getting them on ebay once, but they went away for way too much money, and I haven't seen them or heard of them since, and the ebay guy didn't know where to get them either... so... where did YOU get yours?

*snickers* I got them a LONG time ago. Umm, like 10-15 years ago. I bought them at a toy store I loved to go to, along with my glow-in-the-dark moon & stars. I've got a LOT of juggle stuff down in the basement. juggle

10-15 years ago? *sniff* that probably means there's not even a company name left on the labels by now, doesn't it... and so the quest continues. *think positive, woman!*

hah, no, am not really talking to myself. but why do you hide your juggling stuff in the basement? ubbloco

and, if i put quote-mark-thingies ("", don't know the English word for it!) around my signature, then it's not really my fault if the content's wrong since i'm just quoting. but i won't. i'd rather let people complain about it, it's way funnier biggrin

It's the place that's most convinent to hold it. I mean there's a LOT of stuff down there, and I don't mind if it's cluttered if it's out of the way. There's a LOT of junk I've collected in my years.

Juggle stuff, my old staff, the newer ones, the glow stuff, costumes, and so on... It's also a midwest US thing. Since by law the houses here have to have basements the size of the house (it's a ground freezing thing), it basically adds a floor to your home. So finish it up, put up drywall for rooms and closets and such down there, and you're set.

More comfortable than a doghouse....

Lemme see... I don't suppose milkbones exist down there in Oz?
