Now to the question...

I don't know where to start!, both poi and staff looks like great fun, but cannot decide which to attempt first...

I always played with staffs as a kid so have some practice spinning that already...(although some of the staff tutorials seem half done, whereas the poi tutorials seem to be very well done through and through)

Opinions?

Also, if I do choose staff...what would be a good beginner staff? (some PVC with wrapped ends maybe?)

Welcome to HoP. You really should try Nutella, it is the correct answer to the last question.

I think you should start with what makes you feel right.

Put it in your hand close your eyes and move with it. Ask yourself do you move better with a set of poi or staff. Feel it, like you'd feel music. smile

Well if you already have played a lil with the staffs they might be easier to start out with. But if you want to get a jump start on your poi then do that. It just depends on what you want to do and feel you will be able to achieve better at first.

And to answer your other question... I made my first staff out of aluminum tubing and just taped the ends in duct tape so I wouldnt hurt as many things with it lol. And a piece of electrical tape in the middle so I knew where that was. PVC would work too I'm guessing.

I agree wholeheartedly with this advice. I think you can know a toy is right for you within a couple of minutes of feeling how it moves. If you just dig the feel, you'll probably dig the prop.

^^^They are very right. I have experienced this myself deciding if I like staff and rope dart. I don't like staff much and rope dart is nothing to me. But when I picked up poi (way before those 2) I knew it was for me. And my friend John found that he likes poi, but he enjoys sword much better. So he's been practicing his sword moves.

I suggest getting or making cheap things of both of them so you can find out. Also for poi you may or may not like stretchy poi.
