Hi!

My name is Ian, I have been spinning poi for about 10 months now, I'm nothing special but I'm finding myself. I'm 18 and I live in Carrollton Tx. And yes, I realize you've never heard of that town lol

I <3 dubstep/DnB with a passion and am entirely open to other types of music, if it sounds (insert gnarly adjective) I'll listen!

A few things about me, I'm 6 feet tall, dusty brown hair and a red facial hair (when I have it). I like to drink (sometimes too much) but don't mistake that for lack of self control or stupidity. I am not easily offended and if you manage, you need to rethink your life grin I am not very outgoing but I try, I love talking about you, and I listen for hours laughing and nodding appropriately (lol)

You also don't have to lurk in the day light, in a hall way, or in a giant squirrel costume.

Welcome to the party.

Hello DirtBag - Welcome to HoP (properly);)

It's good to have another dnb head round here. I didn't know that dnb or dubstep had made any kind of impact in the States. What kind of stuff are you listening to?

Why heya there! You got another person from the states here! And Dubstep and Drumm n' Bass hasn't made much of an impact at all as far as I know... I have never heard of Dubstep until a while into poi through the forums, and only heard of DnB in Germany smirk I like DnB better than Dubstep, If you find something with an awesome driving beat that makes me want to jump around like a madman, than you got meself a good song grin

The only luck is bad luck.

Shut up before I stall my poi up your ass grin

What you said about dubstep is now true. In areas with big dance/rave scenes (like seattle) its censored huge. I have a flyer for dubwarz like 5 or 6. Also DnB is pretty big to but not as much as dubstep. Has been blowing up. Clubs that were talking censored about it one party had a dub and Electro party the next week lol.

Also Hi Dirtbag lol. See you on the interwebz

SoD you've been to how many parties? How much of the scene do you participate in? I forgive you though you were a small child when jungle was huge and so was the party scene in Detroit until they killed it!

Sorry kids you have both been living under rocks! Firstly, Sorry Smurf, people don't travel to Seattle just for the parties. The scene isnt that big frown DnB was a late 90's early 2000's thing and it was HUGE! Dubstep has a long way to go to fill jungle's shoes!

This has stun me so much I have to run and get EoN on this!

Read, "As far as I know" tongue2 But you are right about that. I have not been to that many types of parties. I think I remember hearing about a lot of raves at one point when I was little and all that junk about to avoid them as you will die if you go to one... But I have heard nothing of raves for about 8 years or so smirk

Hah I bet EoN will definately have a lot to say about this smile She is a perfect example of a perfectly normal person without any type of meth or ecstasy problem that is a raver that public systems seems to push off to the side and ignore their existence.

The only luck is bad luck.

Hey kids, seem there is some interesting scene talk that's kinda "wow... *deer in headlights stare*" to read. Dieselboy, Dara, AK1200 have been huge names since before I started going to the raves back around 97-98 such good times. Most places DnB has a big stronghold and dominant in many events, Dubstep is just blowing up over in my part of the Mid-Atlantic in the past few years.

I'd love to hear some real Jungle (not DnB, yes there is a difference) and some Tech-Step come back to parties, but there are scenes everywhere. Sometimes we even have raves here in Delaware, but I normally drive to Baltimore, D.C., or Philly to get down. Texas is supposed to have a good scene, I hoping our next duty station is in the Austin area to be completely honest, I've heard awesome things from many friends past and present.

Oh SoD I'm sure you heard about the raves when they hit shows like 20/20 and Dateline which nearly killed many scenes for no good reason. It only takes a few irresponsible people to ruin the fun for people like myself who want to go listen to the music they love, dance all night, and wear whatever they want. You just don't get that chillness at standard nightclubs! Luckily I think the stigma is dropping and scenes are rebuilding, many outdoor raves and festivals welcome fire spinners and are a common place for networking and learning. yes

This is interesting though to read, welcome to the boards DirtBag and come on over to ravelinks to find some events in your region and make some friends perhaps. The fire community and party people definitely meld wonderfully together! grin

Tejas defiantly goes boom boom! More major US cities than any other state.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States)

Austin and Dallas are within reasonable driving distance from one another and intermingle their party scenes. Austin = Just Super Awesome and DFW 4th largest metro in the US means plenty of PK's.

We have a thing called Dub Assembly every saturday that is exactly what it sounds like lol and dnb isn't all that big but there are plenty of djs

I haven't made my way very deep into dub yet but I like rusko, skream, cookie monsta, datsik and a couple other ones

and as far as dnb goes I could fill your screen lol

I love that censored that makes you want to clear your throat when you listen to it, spinning to dub I often become entirely entranced

Pft... Ravers...

(Edit: Also, whether Seattle's scene is huge or not, Dubstep is huge on Seattle's scene. Especially with skill artists. I'm not sure why exactly.)

And I certainly will never consider myself a "raver"

Besides everyone knows dubstep is the metal of EDM and dnb is the punk rock grin

I much prefer the term 'party' but for the general public's use I will accept 'rave'. I don't believe in conversion though.

I tend to use the terms "events" and "shows" depending on party type (of course the uberheadliners at a mega club would be a "show" and the low key, off the beaten path events for those in the scene called "events")

Who's converting to what? LOL I'm not sure about this "subculture conversion" concept... *confuzzled*

I don't see why one can't own a Honda and a Ford, so the same could be said about music and scenes. Go with what you like wink

I'm not sure what else you'd call it besides "conversion" to move, in the space of a few months, from being generally anti-raver to wishing one knew of more rave-ish events going on tongue2 Not to mention that metal events are not generally friendly to bringing in heavy things on the ends of ropes, and thus fail to provide a good spinny outlet. I still like metal, but it's not the people I know and it's not the stuff I do lately. And one can't peaceably and openly live in both worlds when one of these worlds has a problem with the other (if you'd called me a raver two years ago I might have head-butted you). Whether you believe in it or not, it happens.
