Hello, I'm new here, so sorry if I did something wrong smile.

I have phosphorescent string poi and I would like something more entertaining and better quality. I was thinking about Multi-Color LED Glow Balls and a Pair of ColeCord cords with swivels and quicklinks or Jailhouse LED Glow Sock Poi or Pair of Multi-Color LED Glow Sock Poi. I need something cheap, bot not low quality.

I was thinking about Colecord. Is it really better than other cords? And does the cord if I buy it alone differ? Which pois glow brighter? Which would be more entertaining for perormances? And which would be better for learning? And I really want to learn hyperloops and orbitals. Which should I choose? Or even a cheaper way - buying all the parts separately and assembling myself ( for the string poi)?

Thank you, Ninla.

colecord is awesome. i don't like the socks that are used for the jailhouse poi. I used them like twice and then threw the glow poi on my chains and never used the socks again. Colecords is my favorite thing to spin with. Jailhouse use the same poi as the glow poi you'd put on your colecords, just in a shitty sock. Orbitals are buttery on colecord.

Thank you for your answer.

I was wondering why on the colecord set the swivels are on the end of cord (not near the handle)? And on the picture the cord seems round, but if you buy it separately it's flat?

Get the parts yourself and link up your colecord near the handles. Add swivles on the ends if you shorten your poi and take the top swivels out of the equation a lot. Colecord is amazing. You can really tell the difference. Colecord is colecord. If you get it on it's own or if you have the lovley folks at HoP do it for you. As for something awesomely glowy to swing on the end of your colecord? Ever think about flowlights? They aren't balls, but they are the best thing I've spun in my 6 years. And the fact that they run on aaa batteries instead of those crazy disk things is great.

Don't mind me, just passing through.

Thank you,

English is not my mother language and I can't understand this sentence - "Add swivels on the ends if you shorten your poi and take the top swivels out of the equation a lot." smile
Unfortunately, flowlights are too expensive for me frown
Can you buy those disk batteries at any store?

I would buy the colecord and glow component by themselves, and buy ball bearing swivels from a marine supply company (size 6 should be fine). You could buy HOP's swivels, but size 10 is really big. People think my size 8 swivels are huge. I like to have two swivels on each poi, but I imagine you could just have them by the handles and you wouldn't miss the swivels by the heads very much.

I have some on the way, so I can confirm this in a few days, but I'm pretty sure colecord is always round, even when bought by itself.

Oh, yeah they're all round smile It just looked flat on the picture.

Thank you, I will consider that.

What do you think about Pair of Pro Series handles? It has swivels attached to them.

I haven't used those ones personally, but the design is mostly the same as my handles. For glow poi they should be more than good enough. Depending on the leather they use, they should also transition over to fire poi nicely.

I would almost say they'd be too good for glow poi, but as someone who's been given blisters by almost every pair of handles she's used, I would say not to skimp on the handles. Comfortable spinning is more fun.

Thank you,

blisters would ruin the joy of new pois smile Also they're not very expensive, 'cause they have swivels on them. A Pair of D-ring Double Loop Nylon Handles with swivels would cost 6.08 USD and a Pair of Pro Series handles are 7.67 USD. Seems quite fair to me. And doesn't that D-ring make poi loose stability? And those faux suede handles seem to be really comfy, unlike the nylon ones.

But is it easy to tie all the parts together? Is there a risk of something flying away while spining? smile

Colecord was originally a material for skating shoelaces, so knots should hold pretty well. I would use something like a palomar knot on each end, working out some of the leftover slack so you don't lose too much of the end. Simpler knots would probably work too, though.

I like the colecords near the heads rather than the handles. you'd think it'd be a problem but it's not. the heads go spinning a lot so if you're wrapped up you need the swivel action. I do orbitals more than anyone and i don't have a problem with the lack of swivel near the handle.

Hmmm... So maybe I should add two swivels on each poi?

I really don't think it matters. Like I said I don't have swivels at the handles and I do orbitals constantly.

But if I'm going to buy those Pro Series handles, they come with swivels already. Should I add to the ends?

I have the pro handles, you dont need them for orbitals, but they make it a lot easier and you can hold them until they stop spinning which can be like 30 seconds of you get it good. I have it like a giant double loop of Colecord for my poi. It's nice on your hands when you go short for a long time, and I think it might give better friction for orbitals, I used excactly 3 ft and I didn't even have to trim it ^^ I suggest buying the parts separately because the you'll never use the nylon crap it comes with. Just buy the head, handles, and cord separately, I wish I did and saved myself some $$

The only luck is bad luck.

Shut up before I stall my poi up your ass grin

I guess so. I just get the nylon with glow. I guess you can just move them to fire poi if you want later.

Since you are used to poi on strings you would probably like the strings better than sock poi.
I would suggest for you colecord w/ quicklinks and handles with the multi-color glowballs.
If you want to do fire poi someday then you should choose chains instead, but if you don't plan on doing fire then go for the colecord.

I disagree. I think the biggest change is the change in proportion from chain weight to head weight. Having chains with glow and then adding the fire heads will be kind of shocking and things won't work the same where as colecord with glow heads to chain with fire heads the moves will be harder but they won't be as different.

But if you use chains then you can get used to the feel of chains with orbitals and stuff (pure guessing, I can't do any of that stuff xD)

Or what you could do is ord both a set of chains and a set of colecord tongue2

Ouch o.O

Well, I'm not planing to switch to fire poi soon smile

I guess I'm going with the pro handles and colecord. So, the last question - should I add swivels to the ends (near the heads) also?

That's the only place you need them, near the ends. Don't make me make a video!

Oh, I just got my colecord. It's very nice, very subtle. You've probably already made your purchase by now, but if you got the colecord I think you made a pretty good decision. Though I still think my chains are more fun.

I haven't bought them yet. I'm getting them not for Christmas, but for my birthday, on the 5th of January.

Lye, I don't think you understand me... I'm going to buy pros series handles. They already have swivels attached to them. So there are swivels near the handles. The question is - do I need to add extra swivels to ends?
Can you understand me now? smile

I personally love the socks. I feel like they make various hyperloops, isolations, stalls, and more easier. I currently have rainbow poiballs in some Aurora sock (I know there dark hard to see) But I have new multi-function poiballs on the way with lots of socks. Only problem is the socks take damage from being used but there cheap. Also the hook on the poiball for cords can ruin your sock. I cut those off because i have no use for cord. In the future when its affordable i plan on investing in Oggs, colecord, swivels the whole deal.

Socks definitely are the cheap option, and while I don't find them to help super much with hyperloops, they are pretty sweet for isolations. Socks also present more of a visual profile aside from the lights. I suppose it depends what you want people to see when you spin. I like the paths traced by the heads, but there are some styles where seeing the whole length of poi looks better. You could always tack some empty socks onto the same order for a pretty small increase in price.

I'll think about socks.
