For those not in the know the Fairy Tale Land is Denmark. At least that's how I often refer to it ;-)
Name: Skjalm. It actually means "small, irritating devil" which I interpret as "good natured imp who likes to tease people".
Location: Denmark, just north of Copenhagen.
Birthday (sign?): Aries.
Age: 31.
Sex: Male.
Occupation(s): Game programmer.
Favorite Food(s): Lots of different things from lasagne to armadillo (a term a friend came up with for meatloaf with layered bacon on top)
Favorite Color(s): The Colour of Magic.
What is the wing speed of an unladen swallow? A European or African swallow?
Toys: It goes without saying that I've got various juggling balls, clubs, poi, staffs, chains, devil sticks and so on. Other than that one of my favourite toys has to be my super sneaky ninja launcher. Or perhaps my PM punishing stick, but that's more of a work tool than a toy, really ;-)
Hobbies other than the obvious: Reading, writing, games of all kind, mead brewing, various forms of occultism, electronics, cooking, mail "knitting".
Education: got through university a handful of years ago, but didn't finish the ph.d. I started on shortly after. Which was a bit of a shame because it was great fun programming a quarter ton robot, muahahahaha!
Favorite Book(s): Way too many to list, but most fall in the science-fiction or fantasy categories.
Favorite Movie(s): The same.
Godzilla vs. a Star Wars Star Destroyer. Who wins? Why? A tie, though Godzilla does die a split second before the Star Destroyer continues through Godzilla's body and crashes against the surface of the planet.
Favorite TV show(s): Perfect Weapon (two guys experiment with various medieval weapons and armour and try to find out what worked best.
Plans for life in general: (i.e. what you want to do when you grow up) One of the brilliant things about living, erm, working in the gaming industry is that you don't have to grow up :-D
Do you think these pants make my butt look too big? Does it matter if they do? Does it matter what I think? And if it does, then wear a skirt instead.
Favorie ice cream flavor(s): plain old vanilla. There are all sorts of different flavours that will catch our fancy from time to time, but going back to the simple, clean and pure form always works.
Marmite, Vegemite, or Nutella?* Nutella, though some Aussie friends almost got me hooked on Vegemite when I visited them.
Other than the above there's not much to say, really. If I think back I seem to remember seeing a poi show a few years back in Australia, but it was from a distance and at night so I couldn't really see what it was. Then, a few months ago, a friend introduced me to the concept and that was pretty much it. I like to practise hand-eye coordination things and my inner martial artist has always really enjoyed the circular techniques so it didn't take me long to make a pair of poi and start hitting myself in the back of the head.
Still working on getting the basic moves perfect, but it's great fun and it's wonderful to always have something new waiting just around the corner. I also spend some time experimenting with different types of poi to find out how different types swing differently and to avoid getting too used with just a single model. This, of course, means that I spend a fair amount of time making new poi from scratch, but that's also fun :-)
