Posted: so, while maybe megs tone of writing sometimes leaves a lot to be desired, i for one would have liked to have seen a measured response to her post.
but for her thread to be deleted without response?
what gives?

Posted: What gives is that the decisions of the mods and admins are not being respected, in the least.
While I owe no one an explanation, the other thread was put into the mod area for review, not deleted. Again, what you see on here doesn't always reflect what it actually going on. Please keep that in mind when throwing accusations about.
And while the assumption is that it is *me*, it is all 6 of us together. Banning, and in fact, any punishment, is only something we do as a group, with the ultimate approval of Malcolm being the final word. We take nothing lightly from accusations of assault to the consequences we give out.
I haven't even been an active mod for over two months, and NYC has been gone since before Christmas.
People haven't really noticed the absence until this was brought up, and even then, I noticed no one is championing for the few others who were banned, or has even noticed. This leads me to believe it is not a policy issue but a crusade to attempt to save a friend. It's noble but ill placed.
The point is, you break the rules, there are consequences.
You challenge the consequences, and they become sturdier.
All consequences, from warnings to bannings, are on a case by case basis. We don't view anything as permanent, and some who have been banned have returned, seemingly unnoticed.
Continuing to bring this up after it was pointedly closed is disrespectful to all parties who were involved in the altercation that lead to this. They are trying to move on and put it behind them. So should everyone else.
It is a private matter and no one but the parties involved need to know what happened. That is how *life* is run. Most disciplinary hearings from schools to work do not involve every person in the school/office and do not make what is going on public knowledge. This is no different.
I am going to reiterate what George said that NONE OF US took the decision lightly and did concider his input into the forums. However, it did not outweigh the negative behaviour he displayed, irregardless of whether the members saw it or not. If you did not see that, then awesome. That means *we* did our jobs as mods.
See, that is what we are supposed to do. Keep this a peaceable kingdom.
So, what gives is that this is causing more problems than it is helping, and more upset to people who are friends of all sides of parties.
Unfair, FRD? Imagine that you were hurt by someone. Now imagine that despite the attempts to put it behind you and move on, people, against the wishes of those in charge, keep bringing up how wonderful that person is...despite the consequences from impartial parties (and we are, we all like NYC alot) stating otherwise. That is unfair and hurtful.
I've received emails from people that feel the same, and Doc mentioned it in the other thread.
We, the mods, will be discussing putting up a sticky on the topic of the rules and consequences, including banning. That should help bring a greater understanding.
However, the topic of NYC is to be put to rest.
He was banned for his actions by all 6 of us.
When we deem it time for review, we will do so and he may be allowed back.
Until then, the topic of NYC is to be put to rest publically.
If you wish to know his side of things, please, contact him personally. I believe his email is still listed on here, if not, PM me and I will give it to you with his permission.
If you want to know FireTom's side of things (since he is one of them that came forward) then by all means, PM him. Keep in mind, there were others beyond NYC and FireTom and it is not my place, nor the place of anyone else to divulge who.
Everyone is entitled to their privacy and we, the mods and admins, support that.
People are banned for their behaviour towards others, not simply kept because of contributions in a few sections.
No one is above the rules.
A banned person may or may not come back pending on a lot of case specific criteria and a vote.
The details of said happenings are not, nor in the 9 1/2 years on here have they ever been, for public consumption.
They shall not be now.
Please, move on.
Thank you.
