with tools like https://www.callthefuture.org/ popping up and the increasing tendency of people to put the details of the life online through blogs and social network, the increasing use of insecure wireless technologies that identity theft will become a more common place problem like spam? How paranoid/liberal are you with your information management?

I think to a degree, with the way the internet is going. Blogs / personal information / etc, the fact that there are much easier people to 'attack' is about as safe we can be..

lol the link is to a start up company that lets you send free "reminder" sms's and you can specify the number that it comes from ie in the same way you can forge an email address you can now easily forge the number that comes with a sms

Potentially thats kinda scary, but if people use a degree of common sense then its not too harmful. People giving out any information through their phones, is just as stupid as giving out information over the net.. I don't condone fraud in anyway, but part of me thinks that if people are that stupid then they deserve everything they get.. But where do you draw the line, internet banking for example?

I've already deleted all my personal info off sites like Myspace and facebook. I didn't like the fact facebook sells your data to 3rd parties (BBC news documentary) and how now the government and colleges are using social networking sites to find out about you at home. 1 girl got expelled because she had pictures of her squirting shaving foam at college during rag week and the college saw them.

the documentary showed offices of people (this is for advertising) just reading through forums for personal info and relevant stuff they could sell to companys)

A couple of balls short of a full cascade... or maybe a few cards short of a deck... we'll see how this all fans out.

Slightly offtopic but not really, but it made me laugh....

After all the fuss about the missing/stolen HMRC CDs with personal details on, Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear wanted to make a point that online identity theft was all a load of b*llocks, so he posted all his bank details in his newspaper column as he thought nobody would be able to use them for fraud... someone then promptly set up a direct debit from his account, giving £500 to the charity British Diabetic Association!

I started to think about this the other day, I spent like 4 hours in Hong Kong airport and tbh there wasn't much else to do - but I do recommend the Ramen Noodles place there, possibly the best Ramen ever. But they have a Wi-Fi network that you can access from anywhere inside the terminal, now if I wanted to I could attack anybody on that network because all the computers on it are linked - I dont know much about the network security but from my point of view it seemed pretty dangerous.

But in general I think if you want a computer that wont get attacked - get a Mac :P
