So, er, me and my lady could well be moving to Sydney for 3-4 years in February/March time biggrin

She's got a PhD offer at Macquarie University so we're looking at renting a flat/studio near there; Ryde, Epping kind of area.
But we know nothing about the area - so if anyone can provide information on dodgy areas, cool areas etc that'd be wicked.
Also stuff like transport links - cos I'll probably ( wink ) get a job doing IT stuff which might not be based in the same area.

Also, cost of living? We're not mad clubbers - more a quiet drink with friends than bar with drinks and I don't think we'll even bother with a car... But what's "average" for rent, groceries etc.

Oh - and spin meets? wink

Hey, you should really have a look at a great website - www.cityhobo.com

It will have all the information you need about moving to Sydney, transport, rental prices, amenities, health facilities, yoga and gyms, shopping etc.

If your girlfriend is going to be at Macquarie Uni, you could look at living in North Ryde. To be blunt, a lot of the suburbs around that uni are lame. So you may need to look a bit further afield if you want something with a pulse. Try Drummoyne - it's got buses that go to Macquarie and is close to the harbour but is not a party suburb or a boring suburb either. It's very close to Rozelle and Balmain which are great but can be very expensive. Otherwise try Lane Cove.

Again, use the cityhobo website, and it'll help you decide where you want to be.

Hope this is of some help to you.
