Now I do hold YAHOO eMail accounts from as way back as almost ten years!!! (different eMail ID 5 years back)
I am travelling about 6-8 months out of the year and therefore need most things (reliably) stored in the www. This is the reason why 2/3rds of my electronical life is stored right there. I do hardly have a backup, so far I experienced NO severe problems with Yahoo and I do trust these guys.
Recently, I changed my password. I do not know what exactly went wrong, but since then I do have NO more access to my account. Possibility is that someone got the information (W-LAN) or I was simply too supid (in the meantime I tried any possible combination)...
For about the ten years that I am with Yahoo now, this is the first "Super-accident".
Amongst the informations stored:
- all my private contacts
- all my business contacts
- invoices to existing customers
- invoices from companies
- evidence needed in a prospect lawsuit (bank account statements) that is worth a few grand...

Send them an email and explain your problem... I don't know if you've done that already, but try emailing or calling directly, not through their FAQs, and see if that doesn't help. I got my account unlocked once when someone tried logging in and got the password wrong a few times, and said I couldn't go through the usual procedure they told me because the phone number didn't work from abroad, and they were quite helpful.

maybe try giving them details of some of the emails in your account: especially ones that are very old: ask them to check it, and suggest that maybe you knowing whats in your email account is a better way of checking your identity than a secret question?
