Explanation of this picture, the Minnesota mens hockey team, for the second time in a row, has won the championships. We rock. Hence drunken fans, both students and non-students, take to the streets by the thousands in our main commercial area, Dinkytown, and burn stuff. alot of stuff. Hopefully no buildings but the final reports are not in. I plan on going down with my digital camara and taking a few shots.

You know, I used to blame this on sports. I used to say that if we just got rid of professional spectator sports, the world would be a safer, gentler, more non-competitive place.

Then I realized that sports may be a way for us to get out our aggressive and competitive energies with a relatively small amount of damage done.

But alcohol is another story. If we could get rid of alcohol, a lot of death and destruction could be prevented.

I know, for the players themselves sports are great, it's just the fans also get pumped up but have no formal place to release all that energy. Most of the time they yell alot and such, but do nothing more. But every once and a while you get something like this, or in our case, everytime our hockey team wins.

I biked by the scene of the incident, my studio is very close to it, and that burnt mazda is still there, only they tiped it back over and pushed it off to the side. 12 cars in all were torched I hear, included a news van. Not to mention many walk signs were ripped out of intersections (how many drunks would it take to do that?), and than thrown into a fire. there was random dumpster burning as well.

Plus, even worse, an unrelated dorm fire started during all of this, and the bad part was because of all the chaos fire trucks had a difficult time getting to it. luckily it didn't get out of control, a whole dorm going up would have been a major problem, they can't evacuate those very well.
