I've completely gotten obsessed with the new show Heroes, about ordinary people (like junkies and webcam strippers ubblol) who develop superpowers. It's kind of a cross between X-Men and Lost. There've only been three episodes but I'm hooked, hooked, hooked. Anyone else seen it and want to geek out? Has it even aired outside the States yet?

I finished watching episode 17 last night biggrin all 17 episodes in 2 days you really notice the the recurrance of the symbol on the sword and nikki.

It also appears as the Haitian's necklace and a few other places

it appears loads where hiro and lindeman are concerned i.e in lindemans casino on the poker chips.

but something about the power suppression doesn't add up yet, but I can't wait for episode 18 when we finally meet lindeman

Did anyone catch that Linderman looked as if he is going to be played by Donald Sutherland? I hope so. I ubblove Donald Sutherland!
IMDB isn't up to date, which is also awesome, helps the mystery when I would otherwise cheat. lol

The sword symbol thingy has shown up in a few flashbacks too.

I like how it changed from Jessie's one to Nikki's one. That's a really cool concept. They made a glaring point to show it on the Haitian this past epi.

So, do Claire and the Haitian go to Vegas or NYC?

Now, I've only watched the first episode, but I have seen a pic of the symbol and I know what I think it is and what I think it means. Didn't know how common knowledge it was.

Do people think it's just an odd curve with bits on or has anyone else pondered what it looks like ?

Ya think ? wink

The double helix is something I've always been fascinated ... this ladder of chemicals being the blueprint for what we are etc.

They haven't yet approached, from the few eps I've seen, the origins of the powers, be they genetic, mystical or whatever and I wasn't sure if they did.

In a review I saw something about "The Sword, the Scar and the Symbol". Already figured out what they mean from other reviews etc (Not spoilers thank god!) but, need to watch more to put it together in my own mind ...

Oh! Something I forgot until right this second - Sulu knows! Which I guess adds a whole new dimension to his not wanting Hiro to stay in the US, possibly as he doesn't want him to fall forfeit to the company?

Then again, why would he agree to let him go in the end?

Dammit, I need to STOP with this fanwank now!

Wow eek

A blistering (literally) and emotional episode. Definitely one that muddies the line between good and evil... (a pre-requisite for most TV shows I like these days) Proving that it's not powers that make a hero but the capacity for self-sacrifice on BOTH fronts. (The powers do help though biggrin)

I don't care who knows, I was nearly in tears at the end... frown someone pass me a hanky...

P.S. First Christopher Eccleston, now Eric Roberts - that's TWO 'Doctor Who' illumnai in this show now (if you count the Doctor Who TV Movie, which many people, don't...)

I want to know why lindeman is if not recruiting, but getting the "heroes" into his debt, how does he know all the stuff? is he also special? I can't wait to find out about the illusive mobster

the fact that hiros father was working with the american "group" seems that it's not an American association claires dad worked for, and it was a great end to episode 17

one thing, if DL can make his clothes move through stuff, I imagine he can do the full shadowcat job, did he not think of that when he visited Nikki inside, may have superpowers but the guy is still a retard

Little Hiro is adorable, for sure. I was impressed at the match up.

And Nicki is free, so the DL thing is irrelevant now. Although, you are basing your assumption on that he is like Shadowcat, and maybe he's not. Many on this show don't match perfectly to Marvel and there is the generic pool of powers to choose from so we must assume that many will be similar.

I was shocked in the flashback scenes to see Hiro's dad (and very happy to see George Takai).

Nooooooooooooooooooo...counting the Dr. Who movie is like saying Highlander 2 is actually part of that series, or that Crow 3 and 4 are part of that one. I refuse to accept it. No way! Nuh-uh! *Crosses arms and puts foot down*
wink

I am very impressed with the cast, and how it is growing.

And I agree that Claude went all see through and got away instead of actually falling over.

I am impressed with Mr. Bennett's convictions, but not surprised. Any parent would have done the same I think.

I know I'm assuming he's like shadowcat... but otherwise you need suspension of disbelief that he can make his CLOTHES pass through objects, a minor factor that is often overlooked, if he can do that why not "wear" a person... I think he will pull someone through something when he needs to.

I loved the way they made the 14 years ago bit look old by giving little Hiro an original gameboy ubblol I dug my old one out after that. it's the little touches that make this show good (apart from the clothes thing wink )

It's called good 'art direction'... wink did you expect that they were gonna give him a Nintendo DS or a PSP? Slightly ananchronistic... (Then again, his daddy has power, and his future self can travel through time biggrin)

If Claude merely 'disappeared' surely he would've been able to get too far without huffing and puffing loudly in agony... In which case I would expected Mr Bennett to check the surrounding area before making an assumption that he fell (the trees were undisturbed when he looked down)

Unless this is supposed to be Mr Bennett first steps to redemption by 'letting him go' letting himself believe he escaped or died in the fall, knowing there's a chance he survive.(This is if you overlook the fact that he has shot Claude and abandoned him without medical assistance.

The scene of Claire taking it upon herself to subdue Ted felt extremely epic in the mythic sense. It did feel like the birth of a classic superhero. (as well being reminiscent of the Climax of 'X-Men: The Last Stand' but better) If the show is this epic (ironically set in an intimate setting like a house) imagine what the finale would be like!

The most tragic thing in the episode? Mr Bennett won't even remember the sacrifice he made for his daughter... frown

FNi...No, I meant Highlander 2. Highlander 1 and 3 relate to one another, both involve the same relative story, etc. It was Highlander 2 that did that whole futuristic alien thing that was just gods-aweful. It didn't fit at all and was horrific. Most Highlander fans I know won't even acknowledge it exsisted. I knew what I was saying when I said #2.

E_V_I_L, the series was fine except it ended in that "..." that denoted a movie was on it's way, which was destined to be bad. However, the real travesty of that line... Highlander:The Raven, the very shortlived, thankfully, series dedicated to Amanda. Elizabeth Gracen was never strong enough to carry that show.

(I'm a fan of highlander, what can I say?...well, I'm a sci-fi/fant geek...so it stands to reason).

Neon, I don't think it's as much his steps towards redemption as much as it is showing his true nature. That no matter how tough he may seem, that those he feels close to are not expendable in his eyes. In the end of the episode he said "Shoot me here. It won't kill me." Now, think back to where he shot Claude.

Anyone at that close range had clear kill shots, especially with a loaded weapon. He didn't want Claude to die, but he couldn't let him go either.

See, I didn't find the whole Ted/Claire thing epic at all. I found it predictable and commonplace. That was the scene we had the most issues with actually. Claire would not have come out the front door, especially because she knew there was a growing crowd out there. The Haitian could have made Ted forget. Sure he would have been burned but I think *that* would have been more epic, though I do know it wouldn't have futhered the Claire line, well unless she was still in the house.

It just didn't strike me as epic at all.

I absolutely agree with you Neon about the tragedy of the Bennett thing...of all of it...the family, Mr. Bennett, Claire...it's...wow.

I think the point of claire coming out the front door was to metaphorically show the "coming out" of the heroes.

I mean there was no real point in her going out the back.. a small nuclear explosion in a local suburb was bound to raise issues. Mr Bennet was going to let his daughter go hence stopping the "cover-up" i think the whole episode was about emergence, Peter just gained control of his powers, Hiro took control of his life, I think it was an episode where people grew up / developed into their new selves, future Hiro seemed MUCH more confident and knowledgeable than present with his talk of rifts (something that will probably make a good episode)

I get that, it was glaringly, slap upside the head obvious. However...

To keep the illusion of her death from the Erik Roberts-person who was out front. Until then he was believing, so we are lead to believe, that she was a mundane...which I am sure we will find out he knew all along or some such.

As I said before, it wouldn't have done tonnes to progress that line...well, except that he would be covering up her death which would *still* lead us to exactly where we are now, but with her being protected and not hunted.

but don't you think that eric roberts would have guessed she lived? I think he has other sources, I mean she has already lived through 1 fire.

coming out the front gave her dad a chance to live by giving her up, if she had run her dad would have been killed, I admit it was a bit cheesey, but (no offence) american TV loves that feel good factor ubblol

At that point I don't think she cares. Going along with the 'coming out' angle, she had already let her family believe she was dead once, she wouldn't want to do that again would she?

'So my dad's evil boss is there, he may want to kidnap me, so what? For all I knew, despite subduing atomic guy my family still could've died from the explosion, I had to check. But thank god my family is still alive, and despite my dad being a two-faced scumbag I know now that he really loves me and that my family love despite what I am. And despite there being hard times aheads you can't take this moment from me'
