ya see bout 3/4 years ago i saw a news report about ppl being arrested in V for jus skinnin up, from that point i realised me and V wud not b mixing, even tho its only down the road from me

when i was at eastern haze the police where told there would be weed smoked but not to bust people for smoking it but to bust people dealing which is fair enough if they managed to get it through the gate.
security did escort one of the bar staff off site for smoking a one skin which was bang out of order

At events such as this, legally the water has to be made available for free. They did do this by making stand pipes available, if you had an appropriate container to use and had paid £10 for a programme to find out where they were
It makes me really glad that I've never been to V, it's typical that it's the only major festival close to my house (like 15 minute drive away) I've never heard anything good about it and it sounds like it's getting even worse as the years roll by and the organisers bank balances swell.
Not giving any information about band line ups and selling the programme for £10 is disgusting

Not sure where these reports have come from guys. I've been to V quite a few times and you seem to be completely wrong about it. A lot of the stuff in that BBC report is absolute rubbish.
There could have been more toilets and water pipes but it was not by any means ridiculous (The Glade water situation was FAR worse!)
We took alcohol into the arena as did everyone else we met.
I didnt buy a single drink all weekend and was thoroughly plastered the entire time. Got 'searched' on the way into the arena which consisted of being told to open my bag while someone looked in the top of it. Sticking booze under a hoody meant that they never even saw it. I even walked in every time with pre rolled's in my pocket because they wouldnt be a problem there.
The line up was awesone. There was decent food and, for the first time ever, tea tents and chill out areas with teepee's.
It is designed to make you part with your cash but with a tiny bit of sense you dont have to spend much. £3 for breakfast and £5 for a propper meal is what you will pay at any festival. £2 for water is steep but again is in line with other events and there were plenty of stand pipes to top up a bottle unless you are damn lazy.
Some people just like whinging.
It was well worth the money just to see Radiohead & Faithless and to employ AV crews who knew what they were doing.

i would NEVER pay to go to a big commercial festival seye, by all means i would work there but only as back stage crew ( that way you get AAA passes)
i had the steward foreman screaming at me one night at eastern haze and i was a little less than sober but i didn't get aggressive with him, i listend to him dribble on and on then simply said "look mate, i've been here 7 days before the event, i've bust my gut setting this all up and you feel you have the right to try and get me to work during the event when the only reason i turned up early to set up was so i didn't have to work DURING the event"
this annoyed him immensley but i had the morral high ground and was well within my rights

i cant stand the water pipes they provide
i gave up festivals after global 04 because when i filled my water bottle up it was yellow/brown water, and warm.
also when you go to the toilet theres no where to wash your hands.

So i guess it didn't hit the pockets so hard as you're not surviving off just festival grub, and 'twas a good festival... until NME invaded and brought the hordes... You can't really argue with £200 for 10 days in Spain, 4 days of music and a beach party, plus all the sun, sea, sand, surf and sangria you could ask for... but i'm way too slow off the mark to go to commercial festivals anymore, seeing as in that article it says they are already selling V2007 tickets! that's a whole year away!! talk about forward planning...

first off cole, i don't frreload at festivals, i like to crew NOT stuward.
second.......... if i crew that means i'm there even before most of the stuff is up, i help put it up, i busted a gut at eastern haze working from 9am till lunch time and due to health and safety and as it was so hot we took a break from 1pm to 4pm then worked to about 10pm at night, we worked like that for over a week so i think i more than earned my £45 ticket.
when people stuward an event that usually means like dunc (polarity) says you pay up fornt and have to work something like a 4 hour shift per day and get a stamp to get the deposit back.
the reason i like to crew and not stuard is because you don't have to work the shifts unless you need a free meal, that and the fact you aren't a festival nazi walking around in a hi-vis waist coat with a radio.
one problem we had with water at one event i worked at was they only had a one inch run off to ALL the stand pipes on site so the flow rate at peak times dropped big time, water is sometimes the hardest thing to get 100% right.

but it was good fun there, easiest fest in the world to walk into without payin tho

I'm very much of the opinion that the more energy you put into setting up and helping out at an event, the better it is for everyone. Can't wait for next year, when I should have the kit to do solar cinema/silent disco at festivals.

we ha people keeping their beers cold in the water butts at the fire points but it was up to the on site fire brigade to police that side of things
you should come to eastern haze next year ploarity, and you won't have to stuward if your crew

i do have to admit my "blagging" skills have increased working at festivals get to know the stall holders, have a smoke with them is they like a bit of the herb and they sort you out cheep or sometimes free stuff.
one bloke had all these massage chairs and let me try every one when it was quiet and another bloke had a stall called the brain machine, basicly you say in a comfy chair, put on some headphones and some blacked out glasses with L.E.D's inside that strobed. you only got 10 mins on it but my god talk about tripped out

yeh exactly, the fact that the silent disco thing isnt really done much, therefore u get a company involved, and then when everyone sees about the nite, and on flyers etc... its says nite sponsored by.....
and why would a huge company like sennheiser or someone like that need help? i think they are doing jus fine
