Waht's the best stuff to make your own poi?
I'm unemployed and can't afford any at the moment, but I'm desperate to start swinging.
I tried with some string and couple of tennis balls a while back but managed to cause a bit of damage. I've been a bit scared to try again.

for fire poi - kevlar
for non fire poi - socks with bags of rice/birdseed/something similiar inside. just get some of those cool colored socks cause they also stretch more than regular ones, which barely stretch at all and are too short for most stuff.
you should also make a knot at the top for a weighted handle.
