I have a bit of a dilemma, im currently living in a samll town in the UK, and i can either go and live up in the north of England with all my friends or go away for a year or so. On one hand, i want to be settled for a while and have some kind of normal life, job etc, but im not sure if i would be any happier than i am right now. Ive really wanted to go to Australia for years now, and figure i`d work my way around starting in Melbourne. I really dont know what i should do, i havent been away for a few years and i have to make a decision very soon. Its all a bit daunting.. What do you think, poi people?

Read the title, answer is yes. Then again, I am biased.

It was a day for screaming at inanimate objects.

What this calls for is a special mix of psychology and extreme violence...

hehee. I say come to Australia. Every single person I have helped convince come to Australia has not wanted to leave/hasn't left/is fighting beaureacracy (sp?) to come back permanently.

Scared? Ok, I can appreciate that... But it's so worth it. I did a similar thing - packed everything I owned into a box, donned my backpack and said goodbye to friends and family indefinitely... 2 years later I was back, with a wealth of experience and friends that I will forever cherish.

Tell us more about yourself.. what are your interests? What floats your boat? What's your line of work?

Ominously flirty comment. Feelin' like I'm missin some gossip that I should know about.

That's a really interesting dilemma blue. After having wonderful summer travelling and adventuring I really needed to be stable for a while. I've been chillin' and reconnecting with New York and have loved it. I'm actually looking forward to NOT going anywhere for a while. Besides, if I went to Austrailia I'm sure I'd fall head over heels in love with some beautiful Aussie woman and then be heart broken to either leave her or my family in the US.

Giggle if you want but that's the way my life has been going lately. I refuse to date anyone who lives outside of my building.

Honestly, I do respect stability so don't just throw everything away on a whim. BUT, it will be an adventure that you will cherish forever. You've only got one life. I like the over used quote: "If your life was a book, would anyone want to read it?" I know my life's pretty interesting so far. Especially if you skip to the dirty parts.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

I think the problem is that ive never found where i belong..I have spent the last 10 years chasing my tail, constantly moving around the country but not really getting anywhere..Im pretty sure if i stay in the UK i`ll just be doing the same crap in another 10 years. I think i should probably just go and see what happens, but i have to do it for the right reasons and not just because i want to run away from everything again..

I'm about to compliment you, and being that I am a bit of a sarcastic bastard on this board you should take it as a large compliment from a complete stranger...

I'm impressed with your insight. You seem to have a VERY good idea of what you're doing and why you're doing it. If you do have the natural tendancies to run away from everything then you should be extra careful that this is not one of those times again.

Then again, I've got a saying that I say to myself when I'm in a "should I stay or should I go now" mode. If I'm at a party and it's late and I'm tired and most of the fun has been had and I can honestly say to myself "I know how this party is going to end.." I know it's time to leave. For example, if you know that you're buds are just going to sit around and get more tired and cranky and the bands are all done playing and everyone has hooked up with whomever they're going to hook up with, the they'res no sense in hanging out for another two hours and whining. Go home and go to bed and rest to party another day.

If you can say "I know how this party is going to turn out" about the next 10 years in the UK, and you don't think it will be fun, then maybe you should move on to the next party.

BUT... maybe you should ask yourself "Why would I just be sitting around in the UK for the next 10 years?" If the answer is because of something within you, then that won't change by moving.

I think you may have to look within yourself and ask "What's wrong?" before you can come up with a solution. And it sounds to me like something may not be right. You can't change something within yourself by changing the scenery.

I've always thought that fixing the problem was far easier than identifying the problem in the first place. At least for me. I don't think you've fully identified the problem yet. If you did, I think the answer would be clearer.

$2 psychoanalysis from a completely unqualfied stranger... Good luck.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

The scariest thing I ever did was move to Australia..
I had the normal thoughts that run through everyones head when they go through a big life change ...like...Will they like me? Will it be really really hot? Will I get teased for my accent? (YES)Will I meet the kinda people that I get along with? Will I understand the lingo? (HELL NO,not at first)
But like all things, travel is about adjustment, having a sense of adventure and enjoying the thrill of the unknown.
I now see that moving to Australia was the best thing that I ever did...I have made the best friends of my life here, met my soul mate, had life saving surgery and learnt to firetwirl...so I say go for it. It may be difficult to leave your friends at first, but you will always look back and smile because you will have such beautiful friends all over the world....and just think you get to go back to the u.k whenever you please....choice is not a trap...you can choose to choose again.
AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE....OI, OI, OI!!!

TAJ "boat mummy." VALURA "yes sweetie you went on a boat, was daddy there with you?" TAJ "no, but monkey on boat" VALURA "well then sweetie, Daddy WAS there with you"

Saw your message and had to respond (though am unsure why, could be because i'm meant to be revising!!)

Oh, my God.

Go, go go. trust me it'll be worth it. I'm from the UK too and randomly went off on my own to Australia this summer with no real idea of what the hell i was doing. honestly it was the best best thing ever.

I'm in canada for a year at the moment and then have to go home to finish my degree but as soon as that's done I'm back in Melbourne for as long as possible. I'm the same as you in that i don't really know where my 'home' is but i'm telling you, Melbourne is about as close as i've come.

You don't want to stay in the UK when you could be there!! Take the oportunity while it's there, even if you are making me jealous!!
