yeah it can get annoying, but just look at it this way, you are the jedi, they are the padawan, while they are practicing, you can spin and learn new things while still advising them on how to improve, is the best way i found because it also gives them an idea of what the moves can look like and can link to

You said it, not me smile

Alternatively, you could simply repost this in 'social chat' where it would be an appropriate topic (as opposed to posting it here in 'discussion' (for serious discussions/debates), where it isn't).

sorry about the repost demand, we're alot friendlier than that mate!

i'm a firm believer in the fairness of learning: to teach is to learn again, reinforcing what u know, from a slightly newer perspective.

practicing around people you are attacted to also is a big problem with my concentration.

How long will it take you to get all your mates up to scratch? Home your teaching methods then make them go off and practice.
Tell them you need an hour to learn. I think Adelaide run their spins like that. Some times are set aside for learning some for fire spinning.

Communicate with them..."I m off to learn some new stuff"" Be back in half an hour"

Don't be. As far as I can tell, its no biggie.

You could quite easily have a "discussion" about this. Easy peasy.

I gave up teaching (and in the end, doing) poi cos I sucked so bad at doing it.

I still can't teach people staff.

Its all a matter of thinking about what you are doing, and putting it into words. Something I can't do 'cos I'm stoopid smile

we had a Israeli guy come through with boundless energy and some nifty teaching tricks. I learnt heaps about teaching from Guy.

whats funny is i tought myself 3beat, neglected to teach myself 2-beat and thus had a hard time learning it- and- i have a REALLY different way of teaching it.

which, altho it worked great for me, to be honest most people can't understand and/or deal with it. Because its literally the move broken down into its simplest form, and then speeded up gradually.

To give another example, I taught myself to ride a bike by lifting both feet of the peddles, trying to peddle forward, and then putting my feet back on the ground whenever i thought i'd fall over. People yelled at me about how stupid i was, and how it was never going to work, and tried to force me to learn it their way "it'll be easy" "i'll hold on to you" whatever...
Anyway after tons of crying and screaming and hiding in bathrooms i finally got my relatives to leave me alone and decided to try again when i was 19- not to say my bf of the time was perfect about it but it did get done, and i can, however wobbly it can get, ride a bike now tongue (oh and i've not ever crashed, altho i'm still very cautious).

But the point is i learn things really differently to a lot of people! altho i can still kind of teach the 3-beat the "normal" way i don't understand it... tongue (aand most people don't understand me!)

I've found Michael kahns book very useful for not just learning myself, but learning how to teach the moves, because you learn how to break the moves down into where the poi are each beat. And yes, I have this problem too. We've had a sudden influx of newbies to the juggling club, and I seem to have ended up the only experienced regular (at poi). Although it feels good in someways, and I get to meet a lot of people, teaching the same three moves over, and over and over again, gets, well, a bit tedious, put together with the other randoms I end up teaching, these basic moves. Especially when you end up with very little of your own spinning time. However, there is new hope in sight as some of the newbs are starting to progress towards reels (which I think is one of the hardest things to get, it can take your brain ages to coordinate what you're meant to do). I can't wait for them to learn reels though, as this, with the weave and turns, opens up all the moves.

I do sometimes wish, that there were more advanced spinners going though, it would take the pressure off me, and also would be good to be the learner a bit. Think I'm going to go over to Edinburgh for this.

Although I do enjoy teaching, I think it can be a bit much sometimes, it would be more interesting if teaching those at a level closer to mine, simply because it would add moire varity, and also feel a bit more relavent and I would be able to remember more of the difficulties with learning the move. Hopefully things will improve soon. But then, funny how when a nice guy asks you to teach him something the butterfly and weave are suddenly the most interesting moves again.
