Yeah, go for it. They are never too early to learn, in fact I taught a three year a basic forward spin two years ago. She now is doing the forward and backward spin and the simple crossover going forward and backward.
You can even find a pattern for a Maori Bag poi or sock poi here on hop. I would suggest the paper kind, less damage to people and property. At least that's what I use when I teach children.

i made my boy his own poi and he loves them now he stays out of my way when im doing my thing now i have to make some for my 2 year old its nice that my kids can learn poi with me

i made them each a pair of sock poi that way thay can hit each oter and them selfes and it wount hurt all that much its funny waching a 2 year old and 4 year old try to poi

Don't work that hard to find them. You can do a search on HoP on Zubble in subject only and you'll find the thread ... or you could just click [Old link] or here

oooooo thank you i now now what a zubble is there kindy like this plastec bubble things i use to play with when i was a kid i bought some for my kids last x-mas but this zubbles look way cooler
