semi-old skool sounds weird.

like i'm inbetween or something.

'intermediate skool'?

umm

i learnt the basics in a crash course over a summer and within 2 months of joining hop was working on these crazy newfangled isolation and hyperloop thingies...

i think that rules out an old skool status straight away!

maybe i'm old-nu-skool (the more words you spell wrong, the more cred you muster).

anyway, doesn't old skool just mean 'spent at least 6 months doing nothing but the weave and reels'? wink

old skool is not definded by age of being in something, you can be one of the longest running memebers, and still be new skool....

old skool by definition is kepping the old traditions alive, like

old skool skaters - they guys (i used to be one one of them) while they may dress like new skaters, still rock on 9inch coffins, and have grip lines under their decks, some where with one of my mates is my NEON pink 9inch coffin i used to skate on with its nasty later 80's wheels!

old skool music - listening to stuff that you had as a kid,s and are still really into

old skool poi - while having some techie stuff under your belt, as you have pregressed, you have not abandoned your eraly moves, and have kept in line with looking good whne you spin, which is what most of us want when we start, and not just relying on being techie to look good.......

see old skool, and techie are two different things, and while i hav ebeen on hop for two years, i neither think of myself as old skool, nor techie, i think of the hoppers who have a bank of knoledge like drew, dom (sorry but you two are th only two i have spoken to about this) and the others, who while now doing lots of more advanced stuff, still have a HUGE bank of knoldege from when "hop" poi came from the ideas stolen and borrowed from club swining in the early days.....

But before that were the days that you didn't have to register, and then when you did you couldn't change your name! And I still feel new compared to some proper long term members!

I still refer to the London spinners who were good when I started as the old school. They were the people I looked up to (figuratively speaking!) then because of thier great style, attitude and all round dudeness. Where did they all go.

There's 2 old skool - those that started doing old skool when it was new skool or the only skool and still keep doing it because for them it's the best school.

And then there's the new kids who do the old stuff because it's cool to be old skool. Sorry, but 80's clothes just don't look cool if they're new!

Dom says things well. Lots of things, even smile

Its my general hope to be about 1/10th that articulate when I've gotten to his age smile (Not that Dom is old! But I'm a bit young.....)

Or giggling like children when someone says they had ice cream last night.

Or breaking down into a fit of cursing when someone says "I lost." (BTW, I suppose I just did.)

Or getting a dreamy look in your eyes at the name "Pozee."

Or when you can remember the first couple incarnations of the board.

When I first logged on to HOP I read EVERY post that was ever posted on the board. There hadn't been more than a thousand or so at that point... that was in May 2001. My, my, my.

How far we've come, how much has changed. And yet... HOP is full of cool, warm, shiny, happy, lurrrfly people. And it's still...
