Hey!

I'm Ken and I'm from Ireland. I used poi a few years ago but I never persued them at the time. I have been practicing the martial art taught by the Bujinkan Dojo, called Budo Taijutsu. Through Taijutsu I learned how to fight with a 5 foot staff.

Just through friends I discovered a juggling and spinning club and I since have had a 5 foot staff made and I've been busking in the city and I'm hooked. I've been spinning poi for around 2 weeks and I can perform a 3 beat weave comfortably forwards and kinda rusty backwards but any of the guys who were into staffs kinda turned their heads. I dunno, I was very amused to be a total noob to spinning and having people compliment me on moves and ask how they're done !

If anyone here is from Ireland or around the UK and would like to get in contact feel free to pm me, I don't bite (well I'm working on it!)

Anywho,

All the best, take it easy,

Ken... peace

Hello. Ireland is heaving with lovely and talented spinners (well maybe about 10). But i don't think customs controls are strong enough as several of them keep turning up over here....

The only 2 users that I know of on-line that are from Ireland are Fabergé and Doctor_Fandango but they're really lovely people.

You wouldn't be too far out with the customs gag, most of the Irish spinners were in Edinburgh (sorry I'm aware that's probably spelt wrong!) not that long ago and the guys were very impressed.

So they may annoy you by getting seriously drunk and burning themselves in the process but hey, at least they speak highly of you (^_^) !!!

Let it be noted that , yes, I am capable of recording an MP3 soundbite of a true Irish accent (that fecker Brosnan has put us all to shame *que incoherant muttering under my breath*)

[For the uninititiated... Pierce Brosnan... the dude who played James Bond a few times and stared in several very crap movies meant to depict rural Ireland. I dont' think we were done justice! ]

I've heard a million stories about all of the guys in Ireland, I believe the guys in Cork are pretty badass. I actually live in Offaly myself so I may try contact Flip but I think from something Fabergé said he would be the opposite side of the county so I'll check it out.

Btw, when you next see Barry (the good dr fandango) give him one of the kind of hugs that really is bad for circulation, he made me a badass firestaff rather than have me mess about trying to source parts and make one myself. He also taught me several tricks and gave me my first fuel, what can I say, the guys a legend!

I don't know if you've been to the club in Trinity College much but that's a really good buzz and everyone is very open to teaching noobs like me ( grouphug ) so if you haven't been down it kicks off on Tuesdays.

At around 5 ppl start showing up and they're there until nearly 11 so get your mates together and get down there! Everyone gathers around the jogging track if you get lost

Thx for the welcome btw

ubblol know exactly what you mean, even after a year I'm still shocked at how impressed the uninitiated are.

In fact it gets worse when you've been around HoPpers for awhile - they're all so damn good it can't help but rub off on you, but you still feel like a complete bungling clumsy unco-ordinated fool! It's great!! wow biggrin

Hope you get as much from it all as I do hug
