Well, hello children, my name is ben and i've been watching you for a while....

that's not actually as sinister as it sounds - i've been plucking up the courage to join HoP since i took up poi three weeks ago, but it's only now, having consumed more chocolate that can possibly be healthy (about 200g singlehandedly in a few hours) that i find i have enough seratonin-inspired confidence to introduce myself.

So, who am i?
pretty good question, but i'm a student, which means i haven't yet decided, and luckily the world doesn't expect me to decide for another two years.

I picked up some poi three weeks ago now, and was instantly hooked, having only seen them at raves in london. I'm one of those annoying people who've picked it up really quickly, but don't worry - progress has slowed recently as life makes more demands, so i'm not threatening your statuses as Poi Legends.

I'll buy a camera one of these days, but it's going to take even more chocolate to get me to post any photos!

I hope to chat with lots of you, drink with lots of you and spin with lots of you in the future.

Much love and admiration,

Ben

xxxxxx

ps. how cute is this bouncy guy? bounce

hello, you look seem quite lovely judging by your post and picture, unless of course you just tok a photo of a lovely looking person and wrote a lovely sounding intro to trick us all. and lure us in with chocolate (which works so well round here). hmm, tangent over.
welcome to HoP, the bouncy guy is very cute, although i like the yellow one better.

while the chocolate has your undivided attention, I thought i'd use the opportunity to ask my first annoying-newbie-question-that-has-no-doubt-been-asked-before-somewhere-on-the-list-but-can't-be-found kind of question:

Double windmills... a matter of confidence, or is there a trick to it? (oh, and if there is a trick, can someone let me know please?)

I just bought some beautiful new atomic-strobe poi, which make a beam of multicoloured light as you spin them. there don't seem to be many photos of them in use on the web, so when i get the camera and the chocolate, I'll see what i can do - they are totally mesmeric.

love of course,

Ben

i take it you're talking 4beat windmills, as opposed to the normal 2beat windmill?

there's no real trick to it. when i first learned this one i had a seriously sore left boob for a couple of weeks due to excessive boob-whackage....... it's just a matter of practise ubbrollsmile

check out motsplace.com , he's got some great tutorials

oh, and welcome to the madness ubbloco

Fabergé - thanks for the link, and i'm sorry to hear about your left-boob-related accidents. due to certain circumstances beyond my control, i am free of that risk, but seem to attack my leg instead. i can feel the move coming though, which is a lovely feeling, much like the moment between the supermarket and the eating of the chocolate, when you know that nothing can come between you and it.

ah well.

I did have plans to become thin and beautiful, but they seem to be on hold.

so as it turns out, i didn't really introduce myself above, so here goes:

I'm ben,
I currently have bright orange hair - just a phase...
when there's no serious jazz or dylan available, i listen to just about anything, but i dance best to a bit of drum'n'bass - just a bit, mind...
i like the way poi caters for the obsessive compulsive element in me that wants to do exactly the same amount of stuff with each side of my body
I'm studying english at trinity - well guessed mr freud!
i recently acquired some magnetic fridge poetry (the wizards set - all the words are wizard-related) and am totally addicted to it - i've made some really fun poems already
I'm a londoner born and bred, so point me towards a poi gathering in london (though clapham common is a long way away) and i'll buy you a drink...
Six weeks ago i renounced all toxins apart from chocolate, which involved a massive struggle of mind over matter, but i now discover that the limit i set myself (the end of winter) is this sunday. time to take all those bad habits up again. it's going to be a messy equinox, i feel.

everyone i have met who does poi or is in some way associated with the spinny things has turned out to be lovely. your welcomes seem to suggest this trend will continue...

anything you want to know?

Ben meditate

ps. thanks for the cranberries.
pps. there is always more chocolate.
ppps. but i think i have now reached my maximum chocolate uptake threshold.
pppps. does 'pppps' exist?

cambridge was fun tho, we spent many a day punting with the boat filled with bags of ice and heineken.....
it was hilarious we kept trading alcohol with other boats, met loads of people, and got invited to random parties...

well, if all of you come and visit me, i'll protect you from any angry crackheads (i reckon you were just unlucky Konsti!).

but term is thankfully nearly over - i only have a week and 11 1/2 hours of exams left until it's home time.

cranberries aplenty myco!

I'll share a short magnetic wizard poem:
