Posted: Did I say 4pm- LOL- erm, turns out my flight was, and ALWAYS was, at 7.35pm- so I got to Heathrow 6.5 hours early, DOH!
Not all was lost, my best mate and chauffeur for the day stayed with me and we bought travel Guess Who? to past the time. I won 3/3
When I finally did check in I was pretty chuffed to be told I'd recieved a complimentary upgrade (ie they oversold) and as I was already in economy plus his meant I flew Business Class I declined the champagne but the smoked salmon starter was very nice hehehe
The first few days have been lovely- its great to be with my lady again, and the US is a cool place to be. My only complaint is the amount of time it took to get into NYC on the coach from RI, but it wasn't that big a deal as we were off to see Spamalot on Broadway, which was fantastic and rendered any travel woes forgotten- I laughed so hard I cried at times.
I've already taught Ali and her friend Matt how to juggle (Matts almost got it) and Matt how to spin- much fun to be had
Anyway, I should be off- Hugs to all

Ok, so here I am, sat at Doc Lightnings Mac with just a couple of hours before I set off again, this time to wander to Northampton, MA where I'll be staying with my dad and actually working pretty darned hard on the last couple of essays I have outstanding and singing through the Bach Mass in B mimor which I'm singing at the Berkshire choral festival next week.
The 3 weeks with Ali have been fantastic; its something pretty special when you can not see someone for three months (and then only for a day) and then instantly live with someone for 3 weeks without a hiccup. Most of the time was spent doing domestic stuff- shes only been at her apartement for 3 weeks so there is lots to sort out etc.
We went to a forking huge Dave Matthews Band gig which was pretty spectacular if ultimately not quite what it should of been. I blame the stoner kids who invaded our seating area (we were standing but the seats were very expensive) and were very incosiderate (I'm asthmatic, my girlfriend is a proffessional choral singer and has no tolerance of smoke at all). Dave Matthews himself has to have the least charisma of any great rock musician I've seen- that said, when 20 thousand people practically cry for joy when you say "thankyou...very..much..." it must be hard not to get lazy when playing a crowd. All in all it was still a good gig, just not what i was expecting.
Next we saw Jonny Lang, a blues and rock singer who was playing a small venue in the arse end of nowhere- how the guys still has a voice considering he has one of those 'thjrash it till it cracks' voices I'll never know, but he does and I'm most happy he does as it was a really quality low key gig- serious talent.
Plenty of other highlights but they're mostly stuff I'm keeping for me- suffice to say I'm smiling lots at the moment.
I then made the trek to NYC on the bus (apparently the word coach is not the same in American vernacular) and managed to collide aftyer some tooing and froing with Mike. 2 great afternoon/ evenings of fun a nd frolicks ensued- the first spent wondering around with Mike, drinking, eating and laughing lots (and then theres the dead fish but I'll let Mike run with that one) the second spent aimlessly roaming around NYC absorbing the atmosphere. Its one hell of a place.
That brings me up to the present moment... I don't know if anyones actually following my ramblings but even if they're not I have a record of my trip, sealed in time (until the boards corrupt, crash or close... the end of HOP- I wonder if i'll ever happen?).

Posted: Update Number 3- the Bus experiences.
Well, I had to leave Mike and New York behind in order to meet up with my dad and get some work done at his apartment in MASS before I go to the singing festival on Sunday, the music being particularly hard and in need of considerable work which I haven't done. Yet.
So, it was another coach ride from NY to Northampton, and unsuprisingly it didn't pass without event.
The first leg of the journey was pretty quiet- I finally got to see the New York skyline from a distance and was immediately overawed by it- its unlike anything you see in England (and much of America at that).
As we were pulling into the terminal before then coninuing on to the final destination, I heard a lot of swearing coming from the otherside of the coach, a few rows back. It turned out some poor guy had dislocated his shoulder for the second time in a week, only this time he was stuck at the back of a bus. I got some help and we helped the guy off the bus. A sling was produced from his bag and off he went!
The secong leg of the journey was taken up with me trying to learn particularly hard runs in the Bach Mass I'm singing, only to be continuously interrupted by a guy behind me who had established some sort of gambling ring with the 3 young guys he had sat close to and apparently didn't know. He was hustling them for money by playing the 'wheres the coin/ball under the 3 cups game.' I briefly participated, and of course guessed right twice, at which point he said "well if you show me five, I'll show you 10". Suffice to say Bach was a somewhat better bet.
Shame the young guy who got sucked in didn't quite realise that though. By the end of the trip he'd lost $40 dollars, a new pair of basketball trainers and a brandnew cell phone. Infact, he'd been so thoroughly cleaned out that he was trying to sell the hustler some DVDs he in his bag as he was now to skkint to continue travelling. He even tried to flog his porn DVD collection in a final act of desperation, which of course, failed miserably!
So that was that, I met my dad and went for he best steak I've ever had, ever, at an Argentinian steak house, then returned, drank beer and went to sleep.
The saga continues

Posted: I have returned. I'm now jet lagged, sat in Herefordshire in the middle of the English countryside. Bleurggh.
Well, to finish the American adventure tales I suppose I should briefly outling the last 2 weeks of my trip, which went something like this.
I recived a professional theraputic massage from my dads friend who I met last year shortly before heading to the choral festival. It was darned strange, but extremely good- no-ones ever done what she did to my arm-pit before.!
Anyway, the choral festival itself was something of a non-event- I lost my voice in the second rehearsal (lack of practice and technique partnered with trying to singing too loud will do that for you) and so i sat silent for 10hours worth of very frustrating rehearsals. Further to this, unlike last year where I met my girlfriend and several other lovely younger people, this year the sheer number of applicants for the particular piece we were singing meant that there were very few younger people to hang around with AND all my friends I met via my dad were all extra busy singing additional harder music which they had to audition for. All in all it was a bit lonely, and I kind of wish I'd just stayed with Ali for another week- the final concert went well and the music (the Bach MNass in B Minor) was awesome, but it just didn't hit the spot.
So my final week was spent back in RI with my lady before I flew home on the 8th of August (yesterday). All I can say is that I miss her. Lots.
Still, its great to be back in blighty- the rest of my life a fertile field of opportunity.
Oh and then theres PLAY
