elooo,

Just thought i'd say hi!
My girlfriend bought some poi yesterday so i'm attempting to learn too!
If anyone has any tips for a complete beginner, would be most appreciated!

I'm having real issues with my left arm! Right one seems to to work fine.. could it be that i'm right handed and the left arm just doesn't get that much..err.. exercise?! biggrin

elo,

welcome abord the board smile
my advice for the complete beginner: check out the free lessons on this site or one of the other sites with free lessons, and then go away and practise. you could download some videos from the video page too, if you want to see what is possible smile

and good luck

Yeah the other arm is always fun to start with, well it's fun if you're a sadist! Don't worry it'll be working with the right in a few weeks, in the mean time enjoy the bruises, sore balls, shins and calfs! But don't worry that'll soon pass too wink

biggrin

Let's relight this forum ubblove

i was pretty sure i'd have troublewith my left arm when i was starting out, cos i too am very right handed, but spinning poi has improved my left hand's clumsiness, and i didn't notice it misbehaving too much, and don't really notice a difference between the arms while spinning thesedays. have fun

Welcome!

It's often tempting to do everything with your strong arm and let your weak arm take a back seat (Mental image of a disembodied arm in the backseat of a car), but try not to, because it's much more fun and you look a lot better if you can do everything on both sides.

I think that learning to juggle helped me with this a lot. It also serves as a good distraction from everything and you can do it indoors without smashing your lampshades smile I recommend it.

I think that the best way to learn is to post up where you're from and try and find a gathering in that area - learning off other people is great, and you get to meet all these lovely HoP people in the process smile

Hello wave

Do you like the colour pink? ubbangel

You'll soon start being able to do things with both hands, just does take time. Take Puresocks advice - meeting people is the best way to learn.

There seems to be a fair bit going on in Portsmouth at the mo, there was a fire night there a while back I think, check the events forum if you haven't already.

If you can make it to southampton, come and say hello to the soton firespinners (https://www.soton-firespinning.co.uk) cos they're great biggrin

Welcome to HoP Androoo. You're going to be surprised how well behaved that left arm is going to get.
