Yo! I am Skizy, I'm extremely new to Poi, however I've seen some of the stuff that you can do with these awesome things.
Erm... I'm Canadian, so... er... yes.
Anywho,I play with Devil Sticks, currently, but I'd love to get into Poi and Staff stuff.
Just posting my hello... to the world of POI! Yipee!
Oh, btw, is there anyone around the age of 14 here? I don't want to be the youngest again!

Awesome!!! Thanks, guys, I really feel loved!

*eh...heh. Everyone runs away...*

It's great that there's some people my age abouts here, say, do you guys twirl fire? (Really light the wicks on fire?)

And how did you convince your parents to let you get a staff or poi set?
(I'm planning on getting some... Tips appreciated.)

welcome To HoP skizy

My advice to start poi is get some long-ish socks. Fill up the bottom with a tumbler full of dried peas or beans, tie a knot just above the beans/peas and one at the top of the socks. Hey Presto you have practice poi. They cost very little and are great for begining with. Try out the free lessons on this site and Mots place oh and Coleys site .

Once you have all the basic moves down and feel comfortable doing them, go to the saftey section and learn it by heart. Once you have done that show your parents how well you have researched it all and how competent you are at spinning then ask them if they will let you spin fire.

Good Luck and keep on spinning! ubbrollsmile

Hello wave

Do you like the colour pink? ubbangel

Why dont you show your parents what you can do with the poi, try and get them interested in it too? Then you once they see you spin them, and if they join in too, then ask about a fire set?
My mother is 53 and she does poi occasionally (to be honest she's not that good at all, but she enjoys it - thats all that counts), and she does diabolo. And when i last visited my father, he got him to help me make a fire staff, it's not a great one, but it's something we did together that got him involved in my passion.

Maybe try something like that?

all this talk about age is making me feel really old!!!
12, 14, 15, my little brother is older and it scares me.
its bad enough going back to college to do visual media and finding yourself among 16 year olds.

but hey youth is a good thing and the best thing you can do is start learning early. you have much less fear of cracking yourself in the head with poi.

welcome and enjoy HOP
